The other problem with the Cook County Bike Share Study is that it lacks consideration of a Dutch National Railway style bike-share (OV-fiets), which is a hybrid dock and dockless system that has pricing based on the 24-hour period. So how about: iNITAbike (or PTTBikes- Public Transit to Trails)?

In August of this year, Cook County produced an important report on the future of bike share in Cook County. It makes clear the benefits of bike share, shows map and street level design schema for introducing bike share docks, and provides an excellent framework for considering dock siting priority.

Does @divvybikes.bsky.social give bonus angel points for citizen rebalancing done via Metra?

not at the top of the priority list, but I wonder if NITA could nudge CPS to add Metra to their school locator/profile pages’ Public Transit info. It infuriates me every time I see it. Sayre (0.5 miles to Mont Clare) isn’t the most egregious example of CPS’s total Metra erasure, but it is one! Blue?

With the Mobility (or whatever they’re called- ala Montreal, New York, DC, Chicago, etc) bikes? Anyway I’m skeptical- operations on maintenance and rebalancing seem a lot more complicated. And we had them for a while, on at least one occasion

Mayor Johnson and his environment commissioner Tovar use the Meigs Field Massacre as a case for acting boldly against data centers in the name of nature, health, and green space. They should also use it in the name of transforming our massively polluting mobility system. Get better on NITA, MBJ!

thought so too but the 9pm closure time in fact predates the Obama center by several years (maybe decades). Burnham is open until 11pm which I assume is the source of our confusion. And of course before this year no one enforced a 9pm closure time at Jackson Park (and still don’t if not at OPC)

Absolute joke that the 36 Hours in Chicago article has 2/3 “Key stops” immediately on the Metra Electric and doesn’t mention it in the “Getting around” section. Did they visit these places and not ask- can I ride that train? Disgusting!

In March I flew the plane that crash landed/caught fire in the San Juan Islands on Thursday. Lake Union to Friday Harbor via Lopez Island in what was and may always be the best aviation experience of my life. Pilot was a real pro. flew from cloudy Seattle through a rain storm to the sunny San Juans.

Want to add that they did a genuinely pretty incredible job with the landscaping on the site of Cornell past. May many more roads through Chicago’s parks be taken back!

A strength of the US from the late 19th to early 21st centuries. “science” also has been a strength of the US in a revolutionary era sense of a collective pursuit of knowledge and improvement not beholden to tradition, kings or favor. An even more essential strength we’ve lost. John Adams April 1776

You’ll never guess who cast the deciding vote on the war powers resolution.
A screenshot of two news article headlines- one labeled 10 hours ago from the Bangor Daily News that reads “Jared Golden says he would support reining in Trump’s Iran war powers” and another labeled 2 hours ago from Reuters that reads “US House narrowly rejects bid to rein in Trump Iran war powers”

**DIVVY RIDER PSA** It’s only been a few weeks since I discovered you can set your preference for the free, low assist rides at docks with only electric bikes via the @divvybikes.bsky.social app. Such a nice feature that helps when one relies on the divvy key.

Grateful for ongoing coverage of the legal fallout from Midway Blitz. I’m donating to the NIJC. Without organizations like them in the way, the government would have lawlessly detained 3 million+ more of my neighbors, per the demented and evil Stephen Miller. immigrantjustice.org/ways-to-help/

I’m not nearly as proficient at Soren at gawking at things though I also don’t subscribe to cities-aren’t-for-fun theory. But this type of ride, where I take an acoustic divvy and return it to the same station 40 minutes later, isn’t unusual for me and biases my data toward the gawker end of things

I have similar numbers on Divvy but used a membership with a different email address for several years so I contend I exceed Mamdani (on a smaller system, to boot). therefore… I am the next mayor of Chicago?

Sometimes I have to pinch myself when recalling that Chicago took a 5 lane high speed road through a lakefront park and turned it into bioswales and a place for people to hang out. More of this please! Start deconstructing Columbus and tunneling/continuous bridging LSD as soon as OPC opens in June!

When does a nakedly criminal administration that 1. tells agents they have absolute immunity 2. shows up to court with bullshit/blocks indie investigations 3. says attached become top-down for claiming passports are fake and murdering objectors? Do you believe implicit directives are ever possible?

I appreciate your point that it should be more of a focus. Greg Sargant was just talking about it the other day on his podcast. The idea that ringing alarm bells over ICE/CPB/broader DHS tactics is somehow antithetical to pushing this issue seems naïve and out of touch to me, though.

I didn’t know anything about them and was responding mostly to the end summary, which timidly leans toward protecting civil rights. But the memo definitely fails in asserting the scale of the siege individual freedom is under. Any conversation around messaging or policy ideas should lead with that

I was irritated when I saw the reduced metra schedules today- but made the round trip between Hyde Park and Leland/Damen in under 3 hours using the UPN. Thought about brown line (Damen stop right there) but it just didn’t work. Also happened upon this awesome sound check while crossing the loop

There are also existing public bike racks literally at the station (under the viaduct, covered form the elements). They are NOT designated edivvy points

Across the street is a block of surface car parking- I estimate for about 250 cars. The lot and street parking are regularly full (not here because of the date and time- but generally it is M-Th)

I’ve been (harassing) in a good natured way, I hope he agrees) davidpowe.bsky.social - who does a heroes work of communicating/promoting divvy expansion - about the absence of a divvy station at Kensington for the better part of a year now. But there’s an edivvy dock a block away! It’s a stop sign.

Of course he did it strategically to give his preferred candidate an advantage. But what Chuy did wasn’t what the resolution says it was! Not even close in my opinion. If Bill Foster is so upset, he can EASILY move to the 4th district and file by May 26 and run as a 3rd party candidate.
It accuses García of “undermining the process of a fair and free election” and claims his actions are “incompatible with the spirit” of the Constitution.

Nice intention here but gotta say I don’t love this as the first paragraph! Chicago is a traditional homeland of various native people’s. Tens of thousands of native people call Chicago home today. Most of all this weekend but always, let’s avoid framing native people’s as people of the past!

tour of the site on Tuesday with a bunch of neighbors- everyone seemed excited, but one guy waited patiently through the whole thing and dozens of questions until he could ask for a curb extension daylighting parking on Stony for the lot for the apartments across the street. Very reasonable ask!

What a great docking point! Credit where it’s due- thanks Divvy! I’m hoping the next one is put up at the busiest Metra station on the South Side. Here’s to it taking fewer than 13 full years of Divvy to add a station at Kensington!

Uh oh- does not include installing divvy docks at all the ME mainline stations. Just downtown docking upgrades! Go figure! A shame because improved divvy - metra integration on the main line (91st, 111th, and especially Kensington) could go a long fing way.

Never mind, no hope- current members apparently don’t get a decreased renewal rate. long time divvy system supporters get to pay $40/year more than anyone else :) I’m glad at least that I can pause my membership once a year, I guess

This CDOT release makes it look like renewing members won’t receive a price drop. It’s an incentive price to get new riders… one would hope they’d also give members a discount on their renewal!
