Someone on here said they say ‘it’s that band I was telling you about!’ to their partner whenever they hear the Beatles being played anywhere. I have done this to my wife several times now and she does not appreciate it

They did this on Today this morning too, I wonder if someone has given the whole BBC the wrong pronunciation as a joke

Also: traffic mortality rates, infant mortality rates worldwide, success rates in curing so many diseases (AIDS!) and improvement in medical techniques in general. Cataract surgery used to require hospital stay for hours in the 90s. Ten years ago my aunt was out before her son found parking.

Air pollution in London is significantly down, even compared to ten years ago!

Do you mean tree cover etc.? If you compare streets from the 70s or 80s to now we have so many more trees, it’s lovely

Messi is like the soft-spoken gang boss who says things like, “While I personally abhor violence, some of my associates may be less fastidious.”

All the people who are saying it's too expensive to tackle climate change today are the same people who twenty years ago said that climate change wasn't really happening

The heatwave in Europe is so extreme, it's 25–32°F (14–18°C) above normal. You read that right. France recorded it's hottest day ever. The UK had its hottest ever June day. The ground is exceeding 122°F (50°C). People are dying. Tell me again why we shouldn't talk about climate change???

Feeding birds is pleasant but a bird feeder might be better than a bit of guttering, given rats’ well-known fondness for drainpipes

So much that could be said on the 4th anniversary of the full scale invasion, but it all just boils down to the ultimate admiration for Ukrainians who have endured so much, fought so hard and deserve victory, peace and prosperity. Slava Ukraini!

Russia launched its full-scale invasion exactly four years ago. If anyone had told us, during that first month, that this would be the situation four years later, we would have instantly called it a massive Ukrainian victory and a staggering Russian defeat

I find it absolutely galling to have read over and over about how the state pension triple lock couldn’t conceivably be overturned/debacle over winter fuel payments while there has been as yet zero political commentary about how exploitative student loans have been for a whole generation.
