Broke one of the bearings. He pulled it out, fitted a new one and now it's working again. Car mechanics are good with wheelchairs too, it turns out.

My old wheelchair is getting fixed up by a friendly neighbor. Super cool1

The roblox version is in 3D. But my son didn't mind.

It took a little over an hour to make. And it's quite fun: github.com/wmeints/tank...

I recently switched to Go for a few projects, and while it certainly has some great things for it, it also has its problems. Exceptions aren't as bad as some people would have you believe.

I love talks like these. Not everything is awesome all the time. Sometimes you learn to live with the bad stuff. I've found some pretty nasty stuff in C# over the years as well.

The dev environment is inspiring as well, but a little hard for a 10 year-old. I guess we have to come back to neovim at some other date 😂

So, now we're working through skills and agents to setup a proper harness with claude of course. We're not writing code, we're discussing requirements and architecture.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And is it okay, to have to run development tools, to play the game? Also a clear no from my main stakeholder.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Then, we started discussing, is it okay if the game works, but is untested? Clearly not, he said to me.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The game worked after 25 minutes. It includes a few tests. No linter, formatter, or any other hard check on quality. So we need to fix that.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
We made an initial prototype of the game, going over the plan manually to kick things off.

Building a tank game for my oldest son.... quickly.... and agentic. He's a critic for sure. But I'm teaching him what goes into building a game with an agent and how to keep things sane and safe.

My agent was trying to skip pre-commit hooks. Bad agent! Now it no longer can do that.

Running a docker container inside a VM? No problem, it doesn't require all that much either!

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
After spending a bit more time cleaning things up, I tried working with the sandbox. It actually does useful stuff. I can install claude just fine and connect it. Kinda fun?!

I have yet to find time to explore the model and the ideas behind it. But I'm super happy someone took the time to write papers and publish their stuff so we can see what's happening with this new model architecture.

Jev is a cool model for some use cases. But completely closed and I've seen some pretty wild but wrong statements about it. Lucky there's open-source Laya: laya.convaiinnovations.com

Laya — 33ms Multilingual System 1 Decision Engine
Evaluates typed decisions (choice, score, noul) over 100+ languages in a single forward pass with calibrated probabilities. Outperforms TypeSafe Jev.

I used nerdbox (a special version of containerd) to make this work. The VM is running ubuntu 26.04. I have made a tool, called anvil, that manages the VM and interacts with its TTY.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Is that a container running as a VM on my machine? with a shell that I can use? I think, this is going to be pretty awesome!

Kotlin is the only one on the JVM that's crap to work with in Neovim. Time to fix that people! You're "open-source" right now.

Hahahaha, yes, that language has dissapointed me more than once. There are days when I'm not dissapointed. The days I'm writing code in another language.

I noticed that there's now a foundation running omarchy. This is good news, no longer is it backed by a single dev. For me this means we can expect more good stuff in the future.

It is heavily focused on keyboard use. This can be a turn-off for some people. And it is single user as well, so it is not suitable for a family computer. You boot directly into the desktop from the crypto unlock.

Nvidia support works really well out of the box. I've had zero issues with standby mode which I've had with all distros before this one and required me to write custom scripts to fix.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Another observation: The tooling choice on Omarchy works out great for developers. Basically everything is included in the box. Neovim is the default but it takes less than a minute to get vscode. All sorts of SDKs are included as well.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I've been running Omarchy for a few weeks now. Couple of observations: It integrates with agents of several suppliers. When something crashes, you can call an agent to help fix the issue. This is a big big win for the Linux desktop.

Doing a bit of work on our internal agent sandboxing solution to improve the agentic harness used to build the sandbox. It needs a little love ;-)

Most of the websites are rather crap with instructions like: "Install the JDK".... Okay, where am I going to get that? And what is it? Which version? etc. etc. So I helped him on his way a bit in the end. He's now making hello world :D

Something very fun happened: He suddenly stopped typing sloppy in google but asked some serious questions. I have never seen this from him! And he's very critical of what he sees. Not clicking any lame ads or dangerous clicks. Some serious research going on here.

To make things extremely hard on him (because I know he can do this). I asked him: Can you google for a good coding course for kids to learn Java?
100
Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Should you even learn to program? I decided that I want my kid to discover what a computer can do without AI. I discussed it with him and he agrees that understanding the basics will get hem a lot farther with AI.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
My oldest son wants to learn to program. He specifically wants to learn Java, because he's seen that it's a good language to work with. I think a few of my readers here will approve 🤌

Today it's time to dive deeper into running local models and what it takes to make them work properly during our Info Support knowledge festival. I'm going to show my colleagues how we started testing our data center setup on a local DGX machine. It's quite fun and a little scary!

Thanks everyone who helped make it happen! There are just too many to name! Because it takes a village to build a factory. Kubernetes experts, Networking experts, Developers, Platform engineers, you name it, they helped make it a reality.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
And then there were no lights anymore in the factory hall. Yesterday I presented a case study we worked on at Info Support to test what it would take to run a dark factory with agents to build software.

And second, because it is cool.... thank you very much.
000
Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Why you ask? Well, for one, I don't want to type code when the agent can figure that part out on its own.

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Figuring out a way to run a very tiny software factory at home from my desktop. Basically, I have a workplace app where I can work on specs that are then queued in the factory for my local agent to pick up in a sandbox environment like docker sandboxes.

That template is now completely broken. Took me 45 minutes, but now it's behaving in the way I need it to :P

It turns out that creating a good quality powerpoint template is very hard. Wish me luck fighting this rather broken template....

Expect some releases on Github on my account with files for working with Qwen 3.8 on the DGX-family machines and some other interesting stuff to show off what we've been doing :-)

It's the final week for the ISKS at Info Support. And there's a Q-event where I'm showing the work that a bunch of people have done over the past weeks/months to get our internal LLM hosting up and running.

Quickly packaging up my Qwen 3.8 Flash Next setup for a few colleagues to run on their DGX machine. Hopefully I can have that done before the meetings start today.

My open-source agent keeps surprising me. It takes screenshots of grafana, for example, to verify the dashboard works. Very nice!

Willem Meints @willemmeints.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Reading up on the abliterated version of Qwen 3.8. This is not for the weak of heart. It is actually downright dangerous to use. I'm going to have a chat with one or two managers to discuss options... my goodness.
