There’s something special about that warm hollowbody tone. It’s missing a little bit of sustain you can get out of a LP, but it’s otherwise much more flexible.

ES-135? I have a 335 and absolutely adore it.

“They’re ubiquitous, cheap, and fun.” Cheap? This reporter clearly didn’t do much research. 😂

How do you like your Clean so far?

I’m in process of building my first bass after building and repairing multiple guitars. Any suggestions?

There’s something amazing about wiring up a guitar and plugging it in after doing work on it. I love it.

Apparently they find them in Grand Central. If you’ve been to Grand Central, this completely tracks.

I love that feeling of quiet as the snow pads all the acoustic surfaces and changes how sound travels through the air. The soft cone of flakes catching the light of the street lamp as they fall.

So, first and foremost, there’s no such thing as ethical consumption under our current form of Capitalism as championed by Milton Friedman. Second, decreased support is still sending a message, even if someone is not yet perfectly compliant.

Take a look at Nathan Tardiff from Noodler’s or the Goulets from Goulet Pen Company. There are shitty people everywhere, which is why it’s so important to be the good you want to see in the world (or your hobby).

This is my primary pedal for dry tone. I have a CBA Clean stacked after it and my needs are completely met.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 03/01/2025
There’s a way around this in the settings I believe, but I’m still testing. Are you limiting the mix on each output to just certain outputs from the DAW or input monitoring?

It’s not bus powered, but the USB cable *does* carry a ground. Power is via adapter.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 03/01/2025
I replaced a couple of cables and re-ordered the signal chain which did the trick once the interface was grounded to the laptop. It may also be the TRS to dual TS adapter I’m using from the Clean — after putting it farther back it it helped.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 03/01/2025
Already figured it out. It was an issue with my CBA Clean and one of the cables. Grounding the interface to the laptop helped.

Can't believe I was thinking about turning off DMs today.
DM conversation between me and a sad person reads

You guys on the left are to easy to trigger and fun to bully

Did I invade your save space

I get ground loops when I try to run stereo out of my Clean into my 18i8. It’s infuriating.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 03/01/2025
Keep em on a shelf if you want very specific tones, but my default is my Strymon stuff. They take some learning, but it’s rare you can’t get exactly what you want from them. Spendy, but well worth the coin.

It’s starting to come together… …and I was able to chase down the pesky ground loop that was killing my sound.
A pedalboard in a carrying case. A total of 7 pedals are shown:

- A moog expression pedal
- Ernie Ball volume jr
- Chase Bliss Audio Automatone Preamp MK II
- Boss FZ-3 Fuzz
- Boss TU- 3 tuner
- Chase Bliss Audio Clean
- Strymon Timeline
- Strymon BigSkyA flowchart showing signal chain of the pedals

I have one each — Timeline and a BigSky. Depends on how much room you have on your board and how much you want to dance on it during a set. For me, I prefer to dial my tone in and let midi do the dancing.

We’re lucky if our house is below 50% humidity on a given day. #pnwlyfe

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
My Timeline and BigSky handle all this well together. That said, you’re not gonna get anywhere close to a true Trem unless you score a Leslie.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
You forgot Team MultiFX and Team Digital. I think I fall in between — a digital pedal of each class.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
Do you have a flavor of delay you prefer? I personally adore my Strymon Timeline. Expensive, but very flexible. Then again, my board is only 5 pedals, including my tuner. Reverb, Delay, Preamp/Dirt, Compression.

First rule of a knife fight is to plan on getting cut regardless of who has the knife first. Brass knuckles? No one is gonna rip them from my fingers and hit me with them, not without breaking every one of their fingers because they’re too stupid to understand their proper use.

Nothing wrong with a simple pedalboard. If you know the tone you want, enjoy it.

Simple pedal boards are the best. Go you for knowing the guitar tone you really want.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 28/12/2024
Lovely board. You and I clearly play very different tone. I don’t like stacking single modifications one after another, so my setup is fairly simple: dry tone is governed by a CBA Preamp MK II, replacing my mid-90’s Boss FZ-3. Strymon Timeline and BigSky in the FX loop. Just added a CBA Clean.

First impressions from my new CBA Clean: calling this a compressor is like calling an RV a large car; the compression is a platform for everything from clean boost and overdrive to volume, EQ, and modulation, all based on playing dynamics. Very excited to work this into my sound. Sample below.

Just starting to work in my 5th pedal onto mine, a CBA Clean. With a midi controller, I’ve effectively got a very high-end multi-FX. Then again, I basically have to learn each pedal like they’re a unique instrument.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 27/12/2024
They really are! I mostly use my TL and BS to mimic core amp tones I want. Once I get that core tone down, I will send my signal out of my 18i8 into a given pedal to shape the tone further and re-input into my DAW.

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 27/12/2024
See, while I love this idea, I use my tuner as a kill switch…

Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 27/12/2024
Fair points all, I just wouldn’t classify the Dark Sky and Volante as successors since they only do a single algo each rather than an ability to choose among many of a given type. For me, having a TL and BS allows me to craft full tone, but I’m not playing live.
210
Will @willdarden.bsky.social · 27/12/2024
Night Sky and Volante are something different, IMO — not nearly the power of their multi-FX siblings. They both offer a much deeper take on a single algo. The MX seems like the marriage of the DarkSky’s functionality with BigSky’s breadth of algorithmic choice.

Timeline / BigSky / Mobius is most typical, at least for Guitarists. For synth it would probably be Magneto/Starlab/Mobius.

Introduction of Timothy Snyders latest book, which reads:

1 Do not obey in advance.

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Check out Sailor’s Fude de mannen pens — they have a bent nib that lets you control line weight based on writing angle. The other option would be Pilot’s parallel pens.

Merry Christmas to me! Now I just need to find TRS to TR splitters in town so I don’t have to wait a week to use it in stereo.
A Chase Bliss “Clean” guitar pedal is shown displayed on top of its packaging.
