magistrates threatening to break the new law. Instead, it went quiet for a while with hunts testing the waters and exploiting the many loopholes as much as they could. There was little appetite from police & CPS to enforce the new law & only a few private prosecutions happened over the next 7 years.

Today is exactly 20 years since the Hunting Act came into force. Many of us were hugely optimistic and had bought fancy new miniDV cameras to enforce the new law. Despite this, we had to wait until 2012 for the first public prosecution of members of a registered hunt!

Multiple foxes were hunted at the Hampshire Hunt on Saturday. With the hounds allowed to pretty much riot on their own with staff barely seen, the critical element of "intent" would be difficult to prove in court. This is why the #HuntingAct requires strengthening. youtu.be/n4v0vX8otTw

Hind hunting is still going on in the south-west. It's nothing to do with "tradition" when quad bikes are used to illegally turn the deer. Hunting deer with dogs was identified as the most cruel form by the Burns Inquiry pre-HuntingAct. youtu.be/I1xYA8U0G6s

When we had a journo with us a few years ago, he wanted to interview a few local residents for their view on the #Warwickshire Hunt so approached them in their gardens. Hunt stewards charged onto properties after him which didn’t make them any friends! Arrogant lunatics!

Partridge are small shy birds who are often simply dumped out into an unfamiliar environment the day before the shoot. I’d question the mental state of anyone who considers this “a challenge” or “sport”.

On Saturday our SW guy had his car wing mirror smashed by one of the followers of the Ilminster Beagles who desperately wanted the filming to stop and for the monitor to leave the area. A report has been made to Avon & Somerset Police.
