Overall though it is unfortunate how poor LOTR art is sticking to Tolkien's writing. Outside of some community fan artists, even the greats like Nasmith and Howe inject all manner of peculiarities to the text. Plate armor, full helmets, wrong swords, etc. Jackson didn't help either.
Alan Lee work of two Orcs of differing kinds. Fairly book accurate, the larger Uruk has a dark maille shirt and dark iron helm with vambraces while the smaller "goblin" is armed with a bow and simply wears a ratty tunic and cap.

#warhammer #theoldworld #3dprinting #miniatures #wargaming Amusing thing from when I posted my dragon photo I also figured I'd share. I can't put a 3d printer where I live due to lack of space for a room to have designated toxic fumes so I order some online. One model shipped with a print failure

Post a non religious photo you think as holy.
Photo of two different Scythian Warriors found in a Kurgan somewhere in eastern Europe during the late 19th century. The horses remain upright and the riders are impaled on stakes with the horses to maintain an erect, mounted position.

I'm torn cause I prefer Terminator armor being just wider than a massive height boost like the new GW kit. Bigger looks more intimidating but it's still a dude hunchbacked to hell in there.

This was the shit to kid me, and probably what doomed me to become a wargamer AND despise the RTS base building genre on a whole and only enjoy real time tactics games over starcraft clones. Had everything, destructible terrain, unit morale, armor facings, friendly fire, sappers, etc.

Strictly speaking it doesn't even need rules implementation from a realistic perspective of company level warfare - a guy carrying an M1 garand or springfield bolt action doesn't matter much at that level - but it's neat on a modeling level. That era of power armor was also just bloody amazing.

Some I got obscenely lucky with, such as there being illuminations of a child/dwarf as a knight for Kinsbaille Cavalier, or to my shock exactly one image of a merfolk knight from the 1200's lol. Other themes were all lands, instants, and sorceries had the scroll backgrounds from FullMagicSet editor.

It was additionally delightful to design as I got to be really cheeky with some of the references, either puns of the original cards, their concepts, or more meta things like some counterspells using manuscript images of actual magical seals meant to ward off evil.

It's probably my single favorite deck I've ever built, and one of my favorite personal creations as well. I've tired to make it as well sourced as possible too, though there was an amusing error with the printing which cut off the very bottom of all the images, destroying like 20 hours of work lol.

A couple years ago now I got fed up with MTG art of knights for the most part and set about making a proxy deck printed out (professionally by MakePlayingCards, great people if you want to make cards of any variety) of a knight tribal made using exclusively manuscript illuminations. #MTG #Magic

-ribing the cuirass of Agamemnon with reflection upon late bronze age finds and art from the period. The details of the snakes are done with enamel bands as I recall. Bronze brought to a polish shines like a pale gold, and often was highly decorated according to text, art, and few surviving pieces.
This is a hypothetical reconstruction of Achilles' helmet as described in the Iliad by Hellenic Armors' smith Dimitrios Katsikis who predominantly works on ancient period panoplies, both reconstructive and fantastical.

#Odyssey #Bronze_Age #Bronze #Armor #History In light of some rather godawful pictures from Nolan's upcoming trashfire of an Odyssey movie, I find it nice to reflect on what armor from the era actually looked like (bronze age collapse). This is an excellent piece based on text from the Iliad desc-

@jenniferlmeyer.bsky.social Just finished watching this (dubbed) and it's definitely up your alley. Gut busting laughter inducing too, shame it'll probably only be a one off as the one and only season was made 3 or 4 years ago.

#history #firearms #guns #matchlock A fun example of the nuttier examples of bespoke gunsmitthing in the renaissance/very early modern era. This is an 8 shot matchlock, with 8 chambers in succession with 8 pans. The serpentine is connected to a slide where one pulls it back to fire each chamber.

#odyssey #bronzeage #trojanwar While I no longer spend as much time as I did as a kid angsting over how bad the modern historical film industry is, looking at the absolute state of that Odyssey movie's costumes annoys me over how it pales to reality. A proper Troy era film would be a sight to see.

They feel like they should be immediately contemporary to the Empire as they always have these full anatomical cuirasses, advanced helmets, etc. And Sigmar's barbarian tribes didn't have the same level of wargear either so who the hell were these dudes and where did they get their gear from.

Damn dude you've got me wanting to pull out my PS2 now. Best game console and best era of console games ever, IMO. So many titles on one system, so many original titles too, and some of the best movie games to ever come out. Revenge of the Sith the game would be #4 if Battlefront didn't eek it out.
