Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

That's usually near already populated areas where people live. Noise pollution is about dBs and frequencies. Lower frequencies travel further than higher ones, making a low hum of a giant generator extremely troublesome.

Data centers may not emit imperceptible low frequencies, but they do emit noise. Lots of consistent, loud noise. That in itself is incredibly disruptive. Land use may be small, but placement matters. They're wanting to build near existing infrastructure (electrical grid, water).

The arguments made here aren't untrue but they aren't fully contextualized. Water usage of a data center compared to its usage for farming is like comparing apples to zebras. Farming produces food for humans to eat. Data centers support AI to... what?
