one of the most fun parts of writing a blog? making a 3D visual for the cover art

Blender app with 2 3D viewports side by side, a fully rendered view with lighting and shadows, and a wireframe of the same scene. the scene is a three quarter perspective view of piano keys lighting up with an audio waveform above them and then binary code above that - surrounding a screenshot of the Analog Pro plugin.

wrapped the first season of Future Man. it's surprisingly funny, really grows on you after a few episodes and a few characters really get the chance to blossom (looking at you Wolf)

before and after - using HTML Canvas vs WebGPU shaders to render the audio waveforms. instantly looks crispier and runs much faster. gotta tweak the buffer size per clip, but major improvement overall.

I use a lot of self hosted Docker apps and each one has it's own quirks, but Postiz has by far been the worst to deal with in terms of UX/DX. It's a monolith making bugs harder to find in critical times.

Been really trying to use Postiz for social media scheduling as an alternative to using paid services and wow - they really make a compelling case just to pay for a Buffer subscription holy shit. From how many times it's crashed on me, to Docker config hell -- it's more pain than it's worth.

doing a massive refactor in Rust and the bacon crate is making the process much easier with a hot reload version of `cargo check`. make some changes, check the log, bounce to the next error, rinse repeat. feels good.

Seems like everyone is making apps for it now. I’ve seen a couple music players and DAWs popup. If the API is anything like the one we used internally, it’s pretty easy to use.

it's insane how unusable Notion has become in the past year. from completely crashing (the worst while writing), database cards don't save properly in kanban, and don't even get me started on how terrible the UX of their mobile app is thanks to the AI takeover

I miss applying to jobs and having people looking for candidates who challenge them and their perceptions (often coming from a place of more experience). Now everyone thinks they’re a SME with an LLM and won’t have a real conversation with you that doesn’t involve them using some bots response.

how it started vs how it's going: DAW edition

The initial version of the DAW with a lot of placeholder UI and debug widgets. It has a top navigation bar with lots of buttons like playback controls or an arrangement timer. Underneath is a split view with media library on left and a timeline on right. Below is a module area with different debug modules like a playback time.

the updated version of the DAW with more refined styling. the UI has a soft gradient style, with clear defined panels. each track is set to a custom color which is reflected in the track clips coloring.
