"Instead of embracing this legacy..., proposed science budget cuts of 50% are a fantastic way to ensure the next major advance is not developed here."

Endless gratitude to @blackmamasmatter.bsky.social for founding #BlackMaternalHealthWeek. Check them out for more ways to tap in! This BMHW, we are imagining what Black maternal health will look like in our abolitionist future….
What will Black maternal health look like in our abolitionist future? Black mama and baby surrounded by flowers. 💫 Black mamas will thrive through pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood.

💫 Black mamas will parent their babies in a village of support.

💫 Black mamas will receive care grounded in dignity, autonomy, and trust.

💫 Black mamas will know joy, freedom, and abundance.

This is our birthright.

It's Black maternal health week! This time is used to highlight the disparities in maternal health. This week aims to bring awareness to the urgent need for equitable health care and the systemic barriers that contribute to higher rates of maternal morbidity and mortality in Black communities.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we uplift the movement to address the alarming rates of maternal deaths and complications experienced by Black Mamas in the U.S. Advocating for equitable and respectful health care is a necessary fight for reproductive freedom. @blackmamasmatter.bsky.social

SCOOP: You've heard about the NIH terminating grants. I've learned of another, less visible way it's disrupting science: It’s removing some applications from peer review. Not rejecting them, but putting them on hold without saying why or if they'll ever be reviewed. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts
A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.

Take the time to follow the link and read for yourself the list of cancelled grants. The combination of cruelty, shortsightedness, and absolute ignorance is astounding.

Incredibly appreciative of the many people, including colleagues and collaborators, who shared evidence, personal and professional experience around the harmful and unscientific nature of this bill, plus withstood quite a crowd, at the Georgia State Capitol today
