The problem with this stance is that students who use AI may get an unfair advantage. Because AI-generated products are likely better than what a typical student human can do, and we cannot definitively say something was written by AI, this creates inequitable grading conditions.

⚡ Out now: Psychological and health sciences increasingly study how phenomena dynamically influence and reinforce one another over time: for example, to understand the mechanisms maintaining mental disorders. Can we identify reliable clusters of these dynamics? A thread 🧵 osf.io/preprints/ps...

Very cool new paper by @aleksakaurin.bsky.social, Mario Wenzel, @paulaphilippi.bsky.social using some of my K99 data: osf.io/preprints/ps... EMA studies often ask people how they feel several times a day. But when is a change bigger than measurement noise? And does the person actually feel change?

🚨 New preprint: In this paper we make the case for measuring social media use at the level of naturally occurring sessions (i.e., beginning when the app/site is opened and ending when it is closed). Across 7 days and 161 participants this gave us nearly 4,000 paired sessions of use 🧵
Depicts the data collection process. 1) participant opens TikTok, 2) open survey is prompted, 3) participant uses TikTok as normal, 4) participant closes TikTok, 5) close survey is prompted

When you answer "I often don't know who I really am" – which time frame are you thinking of? PD diagnoses require symptoms lasting 2+ years, but common questionnaires specify no time frame at all. We tested whether that matters: 🧵 osf.io/zdbmc with @jzpsych.bsky.social and @uschroeders.bsky.social

It's not clear to me the best way to assess reliability of these kinds of constructs. As someone in the business of primarily studying such dynamics, I was just keen to hear your thoughts and whether I was thinking about this the wrong way. But it sounds like we're on the same page!

Whitney Ringwald @whitneyringwald.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Totally get all these considerations you laid out! My point was exactly as you suggest. For constructs we expect to fluctuate if they are being measured accurately, it doesn't make sense to index reliability in terms of stability. (1/2)

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Computational Approaches to Perception and/or CognitionDepartment of PsychologyUniversity of Minnesota, College of Liberal ArtsThe Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities announces a search for an outstanding scholar to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position focused on computational approaches to perception and/or cognition. This full-time position in the Department’s Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CAB) Training Program will begin in Fall 2027.Applications are invited from researchers who would extend or complement our historic strengths in combining experimental and computational approaches to perception and cognition. Examples of desired research topics include, but are not limited to, computational approaches in human and/or non-human animal models to study perceptual function and sensory loss, learning, motivation, emotion, and/or higher cognition. While we expect the primary appointment to be in our CAB area, there is  potential for cross-affiliation with other departmental areas. The appointment will be 100%-time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May) and will be made at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and University policy. Salary and start-up packages are competitive. The successful applicant should have and is expected to maintain a strong research program, advise graduate students from a variety of different backgrounds, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including core courses within the graduate training program. A strong record of teaching and mentorship is desired. The individual will also be expected to contribute to the service needs of the department, college, university, and profession.A successful candidate's application will demonstrate scholarly distinction, a record of publications, teaching commitment and, if applicable to the research program and the candidate’s career stage, evidence of success in securing and/or pursuing extramural funding.Applicants are invited to review the Workload Principles and Guidelines for Regular Faculty in the College of Liberal Arts, as well as the Standards for Promotion and Tenure in the Department of Psychology.

This is extremely cool and innovative work. A question I’ve been wrestling with is how to quantify reliability for constructs we expect to be unstable. It looks like you operationalized reliability in terms of stability. Could you say more about how you think of the appropriateness of these indices?

To gain insight into how the LLMs made the ratings, we asked GPT to provide rationale with supporting quotes. Although not direct evidence of how scores were made, the results suggest pretty nuanced diagnostic reasoning.
