The $86 million Congress proposes to spend in FY26 repealing the excise tax on firearm silencers is trivial. But it's a little alarming that, at $200 a pop, we apparently buy over 400,000 silencers a year. And JCT appears to think we're going to buy 15% more of them each year going forward.

OK, here are 3 reasons why Trump's choice for a new IRS Commissioner is... interesting. #1: Since the passage of the 1998 IRS Restructuring Act, IRS Commissioners have been appointed to 5 year terms. The current guy, Danny Werfel, got sworn in last year. His term doesn't end until November 2027.

With blue state Republicans insisting that ending the SALT cap is required to pass a 2025 tax bill, let's remember: it was the only meaningful revenue raiser in the 2017 bill that targeted high-income households. Not including it in 2025 would make any extension even more regressive.
