It is peak UK press to seek to make the filth of the Manchester City/Premier Leage debacle stick to Andy Burnham. And we wonder why the UK is not seen as the stable, secure country it once was; because our media want to see every Prime Minister fail, justly or unjustly.

Interesting thread from Roland. If Labour puts Rejoin on its manifesto, and wins a majority of seats at the next election, they should be confident that they have a legitimate mandate to just rejoin the EU. It *should* be that straightforward - but, of course, the right loves binary referendums.

How to raise £30bn without annoying a single person
It's time for a bold economic approach. Maintaining the status quo hasn't worked. Growth is paltry, if it's there at all. Reeves should use the November budget for radical reforms.

A brave policy and one that should be well received by any reasonably minded person. Along the way, Burnham should educate people that the state pension is a benefit, not a right. People don’t “pay into it,” they may or may not qualify for a portion of it based on career NICs.

Before Trump’s illegal war on Iran, oil prices were around $60/barrel. They’ve been as high as double that, and never lower than $70. More often than not since the start of the conflict, the price has maintained a $85-110/barrel range. The global recession can largely be blamed on Donald Trump.

All Trump has done since Xi landed is touch him and tap him. His old fashioned and out of touch idea of camaraderie is just nauseating and boisterous.

This is huge cope from Kemi supporters, trying to engineer an election at a time when she might just about still be clinging on as Tory leader. The next election is 100% going to be closer to the last legal date of 15 August 2029 than any point in 2027.

I think it’s safe to assume this conference season will be Kemi’s last as LOTO and Tory leader. Outclassed by Starmer. Ineffective versus Burnham. Outmanoeuvred by Farage. Why is she still in her job?

My impression is this is pretty typical, and its another thing that persuades me that... to be honest... The Cosmopolitan Way Of Life is simply superior. The people throwing the authoritarian temper tantrum are simply those ignorant of its benefits.

Brexit was, is, and shall always be a disaster of epic proportions. Not just economically, but politically, too. That the institutions and conventions of one of the oldest political systems in the world allowed it to happen is devastating. Russia had a hand in it, and have been delighted since 2016.

As Dr Fletcher posts in this thread, should Farage and MAGA-wannabe band of merry men get a mere sniff of power, we can expect the most Trumpian onslaught of convention-busting despotism the UK will have ever seen. This, as well as the corruption, should scare all voters very, very much.

Why should any other country do anything about climate change and global warming when ~60% of global CO2 emissions are pumped out by just five countries? - USA, China, India, Japan, and Russia. When those countries take responsibility, I’ll separate my handful of cardboard and plastics at home.

It doesn’t need to be “most” to be dangerous - it just needs to be “enough.” RFK & Co are quite capable of polluting “enough” minds to sufficiently decrease herd immunity via vaccination to endanger the lives of Americans and the global population.

This is one of those sobering moments for fans of polling. London's air quality has been measured and assessed very closely over the last decade, and we know for a fact that it has improved, yet, as with crime, public perception stands in stark contrast to reality. Voters are in fact often wrong.
