The Millionaires Tax to fund schools, health care, & expand the Working Families Tax Credit is halfway to becoming law! The lies from MAGA Republicans & their wealthy donors are in overdrive. Let's dispel some myths, explain what the Millionaires tax really is, & why working people would benefit:
WHY DO WE NEED IT?
WA state has the second-most unjust tax code in the nation, just ahead of Florida.
Because of this, the lowest-income residents pay about 14% of their income in state and local taxes while the wealthiest pay just 4%.WHO WILL BENEFIT?
The money would fund everything from schools, to health care, to food assistance programs.
It would also expand our state's tax credit for working people, and remove sales taxes on hygiene products like shampoo and toothpaste.WHAT IS IT?
It is a tax on the highest earners in the state that is projected to raise about $3.5 billion a year.
This would likely be paid by less than 1% of the wealthiest earners in Washington.WHAT IS IT? PT. 2
The proposed tax rate is 9.9% on earnings over $1 million a year.
The tax only applies to the income made after the first million.
