found a new use for a collar
A EuroRust conference badge attached to a collar.

It is attached via a lanyard to the D-ring of the collar that I'm wearing. The lanyard is tied in knots to make it shorter so the badge is roughly at chest level, rather than dangling way below.

The badge itself is highly decorated. It says "waffle", then some text crossed out with a sharpie, then, also in a sharpie, "it/its", "RustNL", "T-compiler", and "github: WaffleLapkin". There is an upside-down corro (unsafe rust urchin) pin, "it/its"/genderfluid flag hexagonal pin, and two pride flag pins saying "&'static happiness". There are also ransom-notes style lines saying "genderless/full", "skilled meower", "ass maintainer", and "killed user". There is also a pride rust sticker.

In the background you can see a nixos pendant and bits of my pink & blue hair.

sorry non-followers u get zero context for this cool image
a busty butch lesbian labeled "Rust" is pinning "the value (me)" to the wall with a "std::pin::Pin". I am blushing and holding my tail bashfully as we gaze into each others' eyes. Hearts, sparkles, and roses adorn the pink-colored image.

Home server 500'ed earlier on uploading images, but I took this amazing tree full of eclipses last week during the eclipse :3 Taken at about 90% totality, roughly the maximum we got here in the Netherlands!
A shadow of a tree projected on a wall, with ever leaf shaped like a half-moon from a near total eclipse

my husband started going on a rant about how people misunderstand what the International Criminal Court does and doesn't do; he said something like "for example, if I went and did a terrorism here in the Netherlands, I wouldn't end up in the Hague, I'd end up in..." and he realized his mistake […]

new jj failure case: when switching to an old commit which has less things in .gitignore, things that were .gitignore'ed in the new commit will be tracked. if you then abandon the old commit, this will delete the files too. one of the rare cases where I needed to use `jj op log` to restore the […]

This morning I've had three "hey I'd like to work on this" comments on various GitHub issues. Nowadays I have to waste my time looking at the accounts to make sure they're not LLMs or people wanting to use LLMs, and all those 3 were. One was out and out pretending to be a human; two were doing […]

@diegovsky > but it seems sensible to have the InfallibleNew and InfallibleOld thing happen and be edition based right? uhhh. no? it solves exactly nothing...

waffle @ eurorust @wffl.im-in.space.ap.brid.gy · 07/07/2026
@diegovsky and here we have it: no matter what you do, if you want to make `Infallible = !`, you need to do a breaking change, and no editions can ave you. You can then imagine a 2x2 table of "change `Infallible`/don't" and "change fallback/don't" with each cell having it's own breakage and […]

@diegovsky this is actually quite hard to explain but uhhh... let me try. So we want to make `Infallible = !`. And this can't really be done in an edition dependent way. We could say that we have `InfallibleOld` and `InfallibleNew` and `Infallible` refers to one of them based on the edition […]

@diegovsky it could be! the problem is that changing `Infallible` can't be edition based, and fallback to `()` with `Infallible = !` breaks old code using `Infallible`

more and more projects are adding an AGENTS.md that explicitly tells agents to stop, drop, and roll off a cliff, so if you see an AGENTS.md, remember to check what it specifically says before concluding it's there because the project is pro-AI (and people who have done this have reported that […]
