While I can acknowledge it feels a lot like “bread and circuses” while the American empire is close to collapse, I am very excited for baseball season to start. Spring and all the promise of renewal and change it brings seems to be to be inexorably linked with the start of baseball season for me.

Star Trek series like Deep Space 9 and Enterprise seem even more important and relevant to me these days. Stories of people doing their best in extremely trying times with elements of moral ambiguity may not always live up to the ideal utopian vision of Roddenberry, but sometimes that’s needed.
