I had to physically print and submit 3 paper copies of my PhD thesis. I had to print and post multiple copies of my first fellowship applications. But even this volume of wasted paper is nothing compared to small children’s crafts and drawings

We are pleased that our article on Ataxin-2 and the integrated stress response in C9orf72 ALS/FTD is finally published in full. A lot of hard work from members of the lab, including @comeflywithjo.bsky.social, and our collaborators link.springer.com/article/10.1...

🚀 Hot off the press! Our team findings @livuni-ismib.bsky.social on brain ageing unveil a novel connection between oxidative stress, neuronal microtubules, and the cytoskeletal protein EB1 driving neuronal atrophy. 🎉 A huge thank you to the fantastic team! www.aginganddisease.org/EN/10.14336/...

Oxidative Stress Promotes Axonal Atrophy through Alterations in Microtubules and EB1 Function

Clear skies over SITraN this morning
This image shows the Sheffield Instiute for Translational Neuroscience (SiTraN) building at sunrise, with the sky transitioning from vibrant orange and pink near the horizon to darker blue at the top. The "SiTraN" sign is an integral part of the building's architecture, made of large metallic letters that appear to support the roof. Behind the sign is a wooden facade. The surrounding area includes bare trees silhouetted against the colorful sky and softly lit pathways leading to the building

a slightly chilly lab walk in the peaks
A group of hikers walking uphill on a muddy and rocky path in an open countryside setting. A birthday card from the lab. A @comeflywithjo.bsky.social special. I wonder what they are trying to imply?
A handmade birthday card. The design features colorful balloons at the top with the letters of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" written inside them. Below the balloons, the name "RYAN" is prominently displayed in bold, patterned letters. In the center, there’s a humorous drawing of a fruit fly wearing a green hat and leaning on a walking stick
