I think it’s too early to categorically say that the climate of the 20th Century is dead, but there’s every chance that it is, and that summer 2026 will be considered a cool one 20 or even 10 years from now.

The forecast for next week has been trending toward more of a 'plume' of very warm to hot air (yellow to red shading) extending northward across western & central Europe for at least a few days. Near & along the western boundary, this could produce a lot of rain.

Here is the July rainfall anomalies map (from the monthly hydrological summary of CEH), data from the Met Office. So much better than the map the Met Office issued to the public, identifying areas failing to reach 0.1%, i.e. no measurable pptn., albeit derived from 0.2mm tipping bucket gauges.

Totality in Greenland on RRS Sir David Attenborough ☀️🌙 The GIANT expedition team were lucky enough to be in the path of the total eclipse in Greenland. It was a view so good we rang up our friends at RAL Space to share it with the 1000+ people at their eclipse event in the UK.

Our meteor cameras have finished processing the data from last night! Our NE facing camera captured 425 Perseids and our N facing camera captured 224. The stacked images are below along with the meteor radiant analysis plots which clearly show the point in the sky from which they get their name 🔭🧪
