Have started playing D&D again. Last time was like 40 years ago, you know, Version 1.0!!! A lot has changed. Ended up with an amazing DM. The two pictures are the table that greeted us recently… Amazing experience!
From a recent D&D game. An oxen drawn cart with several adventurers, mostly unpainted, on the main road into town. Surrounding the road can be seen medieval style buildings, scattered trees, and a town square ahead on the right. The same scene of the local D&D village, but from a higher angle. The town square to the right is now easier to see. It’s hard to convey just how impressive the sight, and the experience, was. Feel very lucky.

The economic cost of fraud in NZ is about $10 billion a year; $7-$8b of that is tax avoidance. Wealthy individuals and multinational corporations are the primary drivers of large-scale tax avoidance. If we want to “claw back welfare payments” let’s start with the ones we’re giving to the wealthy.

The Right Honourable Christopher Luxon
Prime Minister of New Zealand
Tenã koe Prime Minister
I am writing to formally complain about the campaign of online harassment and intimidation against university scholars that is being orchestrated by Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour.
This deliberate targeting of academics and the exposure of Christchurch Council staff to ridicule by comparing them to Russian President Vladmir Putin, following their opinions on the Regulatory Standards Bill, appears to be a direct breach of the Cabinet Manual's standards of conduct. It's a blatant attempt to stifle academic freedom and any dissenting opinion.
For the Deputy Prime Minister to lead this online harassment campaign is quite concerning, as such actions could incite behaviour that spills into real-world violence. This is irresponsible and a clear breach of public trust. We expect our leaders to keep us safe, not throw us into harm's way.
Such behaviour by the Deputy Prime Minister compromises the safety and wellbeing of the targeted individuals and sets a dangerous precedent for how dissenting voices in our society are treated. It also breaches sections 2.53 and 2.56 of the Cabinet Manual.
As Prime Minister and Head of the Cabinet, I urge you to immediately investigate this matter and address this serious breach of the Cabinet Manual. We expect Cabinet members to display the highest standards of conduct and ensure that all members of our community can contribute to public debate without fear of harassment or intimidation.

While most on holiday, influential the far-right networks in New Zealand continue to arouse, & mobilise. This kind of activity flies under radar when most who study it, including in official domains, understandably enjoying the best of Summer with whānau, & friends. The far-right knows no such joy.
A poster by a far-right network in New Zealand targeting the nominations process of the Dept of Conservation. The post's focus on DOC Conservation Board nominations directly mirrors the highly influential neo-Nazi Martin Sellner's emphasis on gaining control of bureaucratic and administrative positions rather than elected offices. This reflects his theory that true power lies in the ability to influence policy implementation and decision-making processes at an institutional level. The timing and targeting of Conservation Boards is particularly strategic, as these are positions that have significant influence over environmental policy implementation but often receive less public attention than elected roles.
Text of post noting :"🚨 Operation DOC Boards 🚨

"Any person can apply to be a conservation board member. Nominations close 31 January 2025."

We've been quietly sharing this message through our networks but we thought we'd make a shareable graphic to help encourage more people to make nominations in this last week ⌛️

The systems overhaul that this country needs is not going to come from a top down approach, it starts with patriotic New Zealanders working at the grassroots level 🇳🇿

We have been consistent with this focus from our inception, focusing on developing over 120 local groups all across NZ and assisting our communities to engage with politics at the local level 🏛
