I have been trying to journal more. It’s mostly a “brain dump” journal, but with everything going on in the world, some of my journaling is very angry. It’s good to get that out of my brain for a while. Plus, buying journaling supplies, fountain pens, and bottles of ink is my new hobby.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. As your senator, it is important that I hear from you.
I appreciate hearing your concerns regarding legislation that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its components for Fiscal Year 2026. As you may know, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R.7147 on January 22, 2026, to finish funding the government for the rest of the year. Ultimately, on January 30, 2026, the Senate voted in favor of a two-week continuing resolution for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to continue negotiations while funding the rest of the government. The House of Representatives voted to pass the two-week continuing resolution on February 3, 2026, and President Trump signed the bill on the same day.
I voted in favor of that measure. Aside from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), other DHS components require appropriations, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Coast Guard, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
In short, DHS is responsible not just for border security, but also emergency assistance, and ensuring our national security.
As the legislative process and these bipartisan negotiations continue, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind.
I also understand there are concerns regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) presence in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I understand that there are ongoing investigations concerning the recent shootings in Minneapolis. We ought to let these investigations play out before making any judgments. Let me be clear, one death is too many and I will be watching the investigations closely.
Additionally, I was encouraged to hear that President Trump and Governor Walz spoke by phone as well as Mayor Frey. I hope Minnesota and federal law enforcement can reach an understanding so our federal immigration laws can be enforced.

Isn’t strange to feel FOMO when your sister travels to IA from CO and no one thinks to involve you in whatever they had planned for the. We could have actually sat in the couch together and done nothing but chat, or not chatted. I’m not picky (FYI, I live 45 minutes from my parents’ house).

On Friday, we said goodbye to our 18 year old rat terrier. Gracie was a part of our lives for almost two decades. My 24 year old daughter said she can’t really remember a time before Gracie joined our family. It was a heartbreaking decision, but it was time.
