today marks the end (🫱🪵) of nine hellish months at work. in the past year I've had one (1) doctor take me by the shoulders and shake, lost one (1) pair of shoes to workplace-related vomit, and logged two (2) 100+ hour weeks, but as of six minutes ago we hit install and I am OUT OF THE FRYING PAN!!!!

I’m no good with grief and some unexpected losses made the past few weeks rough. No writing! No WIPs! But I did end up with a poem, as one does when one is pretentious and gloomy (and beset by a late summer heatwave). Something about contributing a verse? #behold #mybarbaricYAWP

Today I passed a flowering vine
that grew along the way.
He leaned toward me and I leaned back
to hear what he might say:
“I’ve had too much of warmth,” said he,
“the sunshine toils in vain.”
I thought perhaps I knew his heart
for I also long for rain.

I stepped aside to block the light
and cast the vine in shade;
grateful for the brief respite,
he offered up a trade.
Cool, and green, he stretched his hand,
a blossom full in bloom,
and softly said as I breathed deep,
“I grew this just for you.”
