The 8hr course remains just $25 with the coupon, or you can pay whatever you want—even $0—by emailing me. In between jobs? In school? Whatever, I don’t need a reason. Hit that contact form and learn a bit about web components. 👊

The End of Oak Street was a fun action/horror movie! It was a little scary for my 8yo, but my 10yo loved it. I won't spoil anything, but the few scenes I caught from the trailer was all I knew going in, and it turned out to be a different premise than I thought.

The developers behind the VW app have been making lots of little updates and improvements over the last year. The _most exciting_ one, for me, has to be the charging Live Activity they added in the latest update. #VW #EV

My son and I decided to do a replay of Tears of the Kingdom and I told him we should try it out. It turns out to be such a useful tool and the app work is so well done! I wish it were just a web app and not a paid thing, but I like that it keeps track of Link's movement and acts like an in-game GPS.

Will Browar @wbrowar.com · 19/07/2026

When Nintendo Switch 2 came out, they released upgraded versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and they released a companion in the Switch 2 app that was helps you find shrines and Korok seeds to help you 100% the game. I thought this was a gimmick and not worth checking out.

I put a Peak Design anchor on the travel router, so I can clip it onto different backpacks and bags. This will also make it easier to keep it with either tech pouch, depending on which one I need for the trip.

000

Will Browar @wbrowar.com · 03/07/2026

I picked up one of these UniFi travel routers and, thanks to Peak Design's birthday coupon, picked up another tech pouch for bigger trips. That one will be for times where the family comes along and we may want to bring an Apple TV or Nintendos and stuff.

A UniFi Travel Router. It looks like a white plastic device that’s around the size of a deck of cards. USB-C and Ethernet cables get plugged in on both ends and a little screen displays Wi-Fi strength.

Hat tip to @liss.bsky.social for the idea of keeping a tech bag that's always packed and ready to go. I put together a charging bag that I use for smaller trips and it's been such a time saver to just throw it into my duffel bag or luggage and to know I have cables and plugs all set.

Prime Day has a deal on a similar iPad Air that's just a bit better than the educational discount we would have gotten, so I'm just going to go for it.

000

Will Browar @wbrowar.com · 23/06/2026

I don't usually care about Prime Day, but I just happened to be in the market for a new iPad for my younger kid. His current one is getting bumped out of support for iPadOS 27, but he was also sort of due for one since it's getting super slow.

Star City makes me want to go back and watch some of the earlier seasons of For All Mankind, though. It feels like I forgot a lot in those first few seasons.

Thanks to everyone for weighing in! I missed the part where the dramatized editions were abridged, so I'll likely stick to the single-narrator version first, then maybe rent the dramatized versions later.

Will Browar @wbrowar.com · 13/05/2026

I have a few Audible credits to use and I'm eying the Murderbot series, but I see they have standard audiobooks read by one person, or dramatized versions read by a cast of characters.. Based on the reviews I assume the single narrator is the better option? #books #AudioBook #murderbot

I was seriously looking into getting one of those lawnmower robots. I thought maybe the price went down from the last time I looked a few years ago, but I guess it's only gone up. I guess I'll enjoy the extra exercise. 😅

The good news is that I learned some stuff about Express, Node, and NGINX config. I feel like struggling to get it all working is still the best way to ingrain this stuff deep into your brain.

Will Browar @wbrowar.com · 29/04/2026

Working on a personal project and spent like 6 hours this weekend messing with NGINX and CORS-related headers, but I finally got my little project working across two separate subdomains on the same server. Today, it just clicked that with a few changes I can get it all working on one. #WebDev

I'm at a crossroads of do I update the framework for a project that hasn't needed updating in a few years so I can make a few changes, or do I gut the framework, make the whole thing more web platform-friendly, and set it up so I won't have to deal with this again the next time I'm in this position?

After sitting on it for over a year, I finally carved out the time to put the enclosure and upgrade kit on my Bambi P1P to convert it to a P1S. I also bought a bunch of airtight cereal boxes and put my filament spools and some silica beads in them to get them out of the open air. #maker #3DPrinting

The completed upgrade is a 3D printer with closed sides and a glass door. This image shows the printer on a desk next to a 3D filament spool dryer.

Okay, I'm a real fan of this new transcripts feature in @overcast. The music notes to indicate where the theme song and ad breaks happen is killer on top of how nice it works for reading along and navigating an episode.

I took a project that was already on the most recent versions of Vite and Vitest and upgraded it to Vite 8/Vitest 4.1 today. It all just worked on the first try. There were a couple of Vite-related plugins in the project and none of them needed updating. Great work, Vite folks! #vite #vitest

I took the family to see Hoppers last weekend. It was both not at all what I thought (I went into it without watching the trailer) and it was funnier than I expected. Overall I thought it was a good movie and worth a watch.
