Trump posted that scenario RCP8.5 no longer being plausible is an admission that the IPCC was "WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!". That's of course incorrect and also ironic, since RCP8.5 envisioned a very Trumpian future. It's also a bit of good news, as I explore for @climateconnections.bsky.social (🧵 1/7)

Explosive growth in clean technologies has pushed an old coal-heavy scenario out of the realm of plausibility, according to a recent study. But there’s more work to be done.

Big one: we’re hearing from the CEO of a leading next-gen geothermal company. 🌋⚡️ Renewables are the fastest/cheapest new supply, but the grid also needs clean, firm power. Nuclear takes time. Geothermal is arriving this year. Come learn what’s changing — and why it matters.

It's a new Congress and unfortunately, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is on the chopping block. If the clean energy provisions in the IRA are repealed, Americans face higher electricity bills and huge loss in clean energy investments.
Post it note stuck to a bulletin board that says:
"$336 billion less investment, 10% higher electricity rates, and $142 per year increase in household electricity bills."
