A great review for The Relic from Kirkus! “Meeker’s novel is, cover to cover, a delight—cozy without being dull, deeply concerned with ethics without being moralistic: It’s the gay wizard romance readers didn’t know they needed. Our verdict: GET IT” — Kirkus Reviews

The other day I caught this shot of the setting sun illuminating the old aqueduct. One of the many beauties of daily life in Montpellier... and I still find it funny the word STOP is often used in France. That it's shorter than ARRÊT by one letter might be the reason.

A wonderful solstice gift from my hubby arrived the other day... Jeffers has been a poetic hero of mine since I read Hurt Hawks as a teenager. (That's been a minute!) His ferocious, uncompromising of nature and humanity is still electrifying to me.

Is anyone else thinking of that movie, Wag the Dog today? You know, the one where a politician ponders starting a war to distract from a looming scandal.... I'll bet the files are still on somebody's desk, waiting to be released.🙄

Woke up this morning feeling... kind of empty nester. The Relic is out of my hands for a while, like a son who's gone off to college. I won't see him again until he comes back from Beta Reader U with a month's worth of reeking laundry to take care of. 😆

I've absolutely loved writing The Relic -- allegory/magical realism. A relic dismissed as false begins to bestow magical powers on a disgraced gay monk when he chooses to treat it as real. Big themes like belief, power, deceit, and of course, love. Sent it off to beta readers today. Whew!

A consequence-free environment for hatred, bigotry or arrogance is not what tolerance means. Tolerance means an accountable relationship where respect for difference is a given.
