A friend very kindly tried to send me a fountain pen ink sample and I am devastated to share with you the beautiful paper towel that came wrapped around the almost empty vial.
A wadded up paper towel completely saturated in dried Nagasawa Kobe City Loop Green, rendering it lovely shades of deep teal and the vial, unseen, almost empty.

I have some artwork in a group show down in Georgetown, starting Oct. 3. What art? Uh, I forgot to take pictures. So it's a surprise for you and, by the time the show closes, possibly also me. I swear I'll get better about that.
Dramatic graphic text reading "Side Rail gallery presents the BIG SHOW of small works 2026" overlaid on a blurred, bold graphic of a red circle trailing a jade tail like a comet. Below, in small dark text reads "Art Attack: Oct 10, Nov 14, Dec 12 Saturdays 4-8. Open Oct 3-Dec 19, Saturdays 12-4. 5511 1/2 Airport Way S -siderailcollective.com"

Sometimes a friend and I become mutually reminded that mcsweeney's exists and I swear it leads to calumny every time.
Text dialog reading:

Me: "You were a petit parisien? I don't really see you that way "
Sender: "Je suis le gros parisien. That's how I got stuck."

Me, buying a blind bag of stickers: I'm going to share these with all my pen pals Me, opening up my blind bag of stickers:
The Bilbo Baggins meme where he says "After all, why not? Why shouldn't I keep it?" as his happy charm transforms into almost sinister covetousness, warped by the One Ring as pretty much everything is.

I use the Submission Grinder to track my short story submissions, and it is a great and convenient tool. Incidentally they have a "recent activity" section on the main page and I wanted to send congratulations into the wider internet for this one person in particular:

Delta, presumably: please, Seattle, please spend your money on an international summer vacation. The Irish, presumably: you know it's like 15c and rainy right now, right? The Summerlands, obviously: come child, step into the stone circle and dance among us, never to tire or worry or return...
A video ad in a light rail station. The text, in white on a blue background, reads "Delta. Chase an endless summer in Ireland. Shannon is ready when you are." Above it is a photo of rolling green hills and a person in blue jeans, presumably Shannon, frolicking in the grass.

I snapped this photo a few weeks ago and finally got around to looking up the number. It's live. You can leave a voice message. Too millennial for phones, but need to liquidate a certain something? Try webuysouls.com; they're harvesting up and down the coast, I'm sure for good reasons.
Photo of a small sign attached to a telephone pole beneath the open mouth of a monster made from spray painted salvage materials. The sign looks like a low-budget advertising of services until you realize it reads "we buy souls! +1 213 293 9156"

I'm getting more ads like this and some of them aren't even targeted, like the ridiculous taskrabbit one I saw on the lightrail last week.

I really want Zwei zu eins (Two to One) to get a US release. If you have a VPN you can probably get hold of the UK or German releases, but people surfing netflix should get the pleasure of randomly coming across it.
A movie poster. The text "zwei zu eins," the letters scored in a way that suggests currency, is overlaid below a montage of one teddy bear and a bunch of white German actors of multiple ages and genders, dressed like it's 1990, holding and/or throwing a rather suspicious amount of East Germany money.

My @pamwishbow.bsky.social city is steadily growing. I have plans for this windowsill neighborhood. The next step is probably dusting though.
A dusty windowsill with three small wooden, urban structures arranged on it, bracketed by smooth sea brick and a small cat sculpture. The buildings are painted different midtone colors and illustrated, all art by Pam Wishbow: blackcat coffee, monster subs, and a printshop. The sub shop has apartments overhead and they all have cats on the windows.

I'm just saying, I have this meme in a special place for special occasions and I am always ready to use it. Kissinger getting caught by death's arcade claw machine was my ast opportunity. The world can give us more.

I've seen the future (Nature Futures)! Next Wednesday, my flash fiction piece "The Cold Coffee Effect" will be published. Anyone with an inclination (please have an inclination) can read it online on July 9th.
Screenshot from the final proof of a short story, featuring the headings and no spoilers. The first line says "science fiction"; beneath it, in large bold text, "Futures"; beneath that, in slightly smaller, strong font, "Cold coffee effect", and beneath that in two different fonts, "Time for a break. By Watson Neith." There is a bare glimpse of a black and white editorial illustration beneath that, but what it reveals is uncertain...

Netflix has missed out on an opportunity, and that opportunity is putting these guys on every single kind of merchandise in existence. Basically spent the entire movie shrieking into a pillow "But if the next song makes the honmoon permanent, will this precious baby be OK?"

YOU GOT COFFEE NOW GET CRAB.
A large orange banner on a metal bar fence reads in capital letters: HUGE KING CRAB SALE! DUNGENESS AND SNOW CRAB TOO. More importantly, a small, handwritten white posterboard reads: You got coffee, now get crab. Also in all caps with the 'now' italicized. The carcinization begins.

Me, organizing my stationery to avoid thinking about the world: oh yes I do have a pretty great collection of stickers.
A sticker that says "everyone deserves a living wage" in hand lettered red font reminiscent of a simple blackletter. It is bordered with a warm red -almost scarlet- and pink block border with a rustic design of strawberries, tulips, and dark brown and white hands sprouting from vines. By the excellent HagatoneArt on Etsy.

They're super pretty but I'm not the biggest fan of paperblanks for two reasons: 1)I don't find the paper works well with fountain pen, and 2) one of my cats thinks this is a primo scratching surface, and if you look closely you can tell. None of my other notebooks are this desirable to her.

Seattle's sticker scene is really top-notch, what else can I tell you.

Celebrating #goblinweek by testing out some handmade pigments I bought.
A goblin sits behind a shield buried halfway in the ground between two mossy boulders in a patch of yellowed grass. The shield has a denim blue background and silver rim. The goblin is largely obscured but you can see glasses posted on their forehead and tilted green ears, not to mention eyes peering over the shield. They hold a spear. It appears you can walk around the boulders fairly easily, but are those other ears you see?
