As usual, the prose was gorgeous and the magic system was interesting and complex. The consistent pacing kept me interested in all the storylines across time and I love every single one of the characters. If you’ve never read Rebecca Ross I think this would be a great place to start.

I’m halfway through my ARC of Rebecca Ross’s next book, A Bittersweet Spell, and it’s so good. If I had one complaint about Wild Reverence, it was that the pacing was off at times. The format of Spell makes the pacing really tight. I’m compelled by every part of it so far.

We are having a powerpoint night with friends on Saturday so I decided to make a presentation of Luna’s Top 12 Top 5’s- 12 lists of her top 5 favorite things (toys, snacks, people, places to walk, where she liked to be scritched etc) with pictures and it’s very healing ❤️‍🩹

We lost tuna to a really aggressive cancer yesterday that we didn’t even know about until it was too late. We learned at the vet on Tuesday that a cancerous tumor on her spleen had ruptured Monday night causing massive internal bleeding, about 50% of the blood from her veins was in her abdomen

First book of the third quarter is Like In Love With You which is a 4 star book but a 5 star reading experience for me. As a Northanger Abbey fan girl, give me more NA inspired books!! I loved the romance, the setting, the queer HEA. Just a delightful read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

As is my tradition, I reread P&P for my birthday. I highly recommend the delightful audio read by Rosamund Pike (it’s audible exclusive but you don’t have to buy). My spouse read it for the first time and though he’s seen 2005 dozens of times, he enjoyed how funny and thoughtful the book is. ♾️⭐️

In honor of Stardust’s adoption today I chose “How It Begins” which is one of Oliver’s poems from Dog Songs. I was thinking of the joy, the longing that’s fulfilled when an animal chooses you back and you know you belong to each other.

I really fell off of posting these here but I wanted to share the poem I chose for Monday, Of the Empire. It is one that I’ve returned to many times since 2016. I particularly appreciate the conclusion of this poem— not that our enemies don’t have hearts, but that their hearts are small and mean.

Of The Empire

We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of
the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

I never see other EDS people online talk about how it’s affected their hearing or vision but my ear and eye degeneration have been two of my most obvious and impactful symptoms. I’m 30 and need hearing aids and will never see 20/20 again.

The past two months I’ve gone to a local knit meet up and struggled to have a good time because it was so loud I couldn’t hear people talking to me. Tonight I went with my hearing aids and I could actually talk to people and it was so nice I could cry 😭❤️‍🩹
