Infinity stars to my beloved, Rebecca ❤️❤️ I’ve read Rebecca four or five times now and each time I find something new to think about. IMO it’s a very accessible classic and fans of modern domestic thrillers will appreciate how much it has influenced the genre. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This Dark Night was one of most beautiful biographies I’ve ever read. It felt like the Moors were a character in Emily’s life the way the Moors are a character in Wuthering Heights. Highly recommend if you’re looking to learn about the Brontes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I really enjoyed Threshing Day! It felt like a good mix of interesting character work and world building that we don’t get from Violet’s POV. I also appreciated the artwork throughout. And one thing about RY is that she knows how to end a book leaving you excited for the next one!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s hard to give this one a fair review without factoring in all the Discourse. The author’s note at the beginning says “This is a novel about getting things wrong” and I think if you approach it with that in mind, it’s a rich and tender novel. Continued in screenshots ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cover of the book Taipei Story by R.F. KuangYou aren’t supposed to take the narrator’s thoughts at face value. She is unlikeable and contradictory and an unreliable narrator because that is the purpose of this book. An author can be criticizing ideas and systems without having the characters criticize them outright. Spoilers ahead technically but in my opinion, two of the big controversial topics in this book are Kuang criticizing fetishization of queerness and colonialism. The MC goes to a lecture where the white western female lecturer makes the notably terrible argument that queerness should include straight women (because it’s so expansive!) while citing other women who have written queer characters but are not themselves queer. Additionally, the MC goes to a concert hall and sees an Israeli pianist perform to a totally packed crowd and later return many times to see other performers to much smaller crowds.Knowing the author’s politics, I interpreted this as a criticism of the way people are performatively against the colonization of Taiwan by China but are comfortable with Israel’s colonization of Palestine. This wasn’t my favorite Kuang book (that is still Babel) but people are misinterpreting this book by ignoring the author’s note at the beginning and taking the narrator at face value instead of thinking about what the author is trying to communicate through her.

First book of the last quarter of 2026 was another absolute delight. Grim Tidings is easily my new favorite BK Borison. What a beautiful examination of life, death, and love. I would read 100 more books in this series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Last book of the quarter was another 5 star! Live Laugh Love is for those interested in the historical and social threads that have led to the modern white evangelical woman. It’s incredibly well researched and though it’s dense, I couldn’t put it down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel so fortunate to have gotten an ARC of A Bittersweet Spell. Rebecca Ross never disappoints, but it stands out to me as her most well rounded work so far. The only downside to getting to read an early copy is having to wait extra long for the sequel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was so fortunate to get an audio ARC of Deesha Philyaw’s debut novel and I loved it as much as I loved her short story collection. It’s messy and juicy and full of heart. It’s a very entertaining examination of the church’s hypocrisies, especially misogyny. She’s a Pittsburgh treasure 🖤💛 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This graphic memoir was so informative, but I often struggled with the pacing and the way the story was so nonlinear. I also wish certain aspects had been more fleshed out. Still, it’s a moving family portrait of generational trauma and how differently it can look for each person. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
