Seeing Brecht and Weill's 1928 socialist masterwork Threepenny Opera in the theatre it debuted in.

Theatre am Schiffbauerdamm, an elaborately decorated 1892 theatre with many statues, gilding everywhere and small, elaborate balconies with red walls around a proscenium stage. Brecht and Weill debuted their socialist masterwerk, Dreigroschenoper, Threepenny Opera here in 1928, and I'm seeing it 98 years later.

St. Patrick's Day is the anniversary of my father's birth and death. He held on for a week longer than anyone thought with the cancer to die on his birthday. He wanted the symmetry I guess. The anniversary of my Mum's death is also this month. Also cancer. #FuckCancer

Wonders I have seen today: a lighthouse in Sassnitz wrapped in ice; a pilot craft using its wake to break up a huge, glassy sheet of harbour ice; walking between frozen waves in a frozen sea; fog rolling down wooded hills over the white wooden seafront hotels in Binz.

A thick wall of dirty ice, slowly eroded by misting rain, rises up the side of a green and white lighthouse on the Mole in Sassnitz, Rügen. The whole end of the breakwater is frozen solid. The sky is pearly grey. A man in a black hoodie with a camera stands looking up at the icy lighthouse.

The extremely scenic and wintry chalk cliff and beech tree forest landscape of the Jasmund National Park, Sassnitz on the Island of Rügen. Icy clear green and blue sea water is fringed by sea ice along the rocky shore. Above towering white chalk cliffs, austere and bare winter beech trees grow down to the frozen sea.

A Tokyo Shibuya restaurant promotion ad that satirises the Wong Kar-wai film In The Mood For Love, where a well-dressed middle aged Asian man in a nice grey suit with slicked back hair sensually fondles and presses his cheek to the carapace of a large red crab. The insinuation is In The Mood For Crab, and the poster is in faded retro neon-lit hues of red, yellow and purple with yellow English and Chinese-looking typefaces. It's marvellously funny.

In Matsumoto, I ate at Yakitori Toritomi on Nawatedori, a shopping street famous for its frog shrine and many frog statues. Owner Lei and her friend Shining Head told me I was punk for travelling solo and kawaii for my travelling clothes.

Day 2 in Japan and I have seen wonders already.

2611m Mt Okudainichi in the Chubusangaku National Park in the Northern Japanese alps. This imposing grey granite peak is dusted in snow under a perfect Delft blue sky. A puff of cloud, like smoke rolls in at the head of the legendary Sea Of Cloud.
In front is a wide field of pristine white snow and between it and the mountain is a stand of dark green alpine trees including pines, beeches and cedars.

The view from the Kurobe Cable Car over the lake formed by the Kurobe Dam in a deep, sunlit valley surrounded by 3 astonishing granite peaks with light snow on the crags. The water is a deep jade and pine trees and yellow flowers climb up the sides of the valley.

Double rainbow over the outlet spray of the Kurobe Dam across some frankly astonishing lower peaks speckled with beech and other alpine trees turning autumnal orange

Japanese architect Terunobu Fujimori designed Takasugi-an (the "Too Tall Teahouse") perched 6m high on chestnut trunks with no discernible way of getting up to the first platform which leads to a cheerful yellow plaster room with a jaunty Studio Ghibliesque black metal roof and chimney. It is ringed by Buddhist memorial places and near the Suwa Grand Shrine, apparently the oldest Shinto shrine complex in Suwa, near Chino, Japan.
