ProPublica reviewed the court records for more than 70,000 habeas petition cases and found that judges in some parts of the country take far longer than others to decide whether people with no criminal record should be detained by ICE. See our full list: propub.li/46ejybx
Excerpt of a searchable table titled "How long do habeas cases take in different judges' courtrooms?" The description reads: "Among judges who have been assigned at least 50 habeas cases during the second Trump administration, the median time for a case to be closed varies widely." The table is organized into columns, from left to right: judge (appointed by); district; total cases; and median days to close. For example: The top judge, Charles Goodwin, is a Trump appointee in the Western District of Oklahoma, with 169 total cases and 144 median days to close a case. Most of the top 9 judges shown were appointed by Republican presidents and are in red state districts. They all take a median 92 days or longer to close habeas cases.

Hate to break it to the six such eminent justices, but that's not at all what Trump's order is designed to do.
About five months ago, President Trump issued an Exec- utive Order designed to maintain public confidence in fed- eral elections. 17125 (2026). The Order is an internal directive from the President to his subordinates mandating that certain agen- cies pursue certain policies. It neither requires nor forbids anything of anyone outside the Executive Branch. Three sections of the Order are relevant here.
