Just going to share this real quick for #FFXIVWrite in case it helps anyone 💜 Can't believe it's almost time!! Big hype!

an image with tips and tricks for ffxivwrite - points are; - Set your work folder up ahead of time

(in Ellipsus, Scrivener etc.)

- You can pick your prompt-focus ahead of time too

(ie: it might be an idea to alternate between WoL and

Azem for prompt fills!)

- Remember that the goal is to write, that doesn't have

to be perfect and edited! You can be messy!

- It's okay to skip days!

- It's also okay to jump back into it the next day or halfway

through the month!

- Don't stare at a blank page waiting for that magical opening

line, just start writing and trust yourself

- There is no wordcount, even a haiku will do!

- If reward systems or challenges help motivate you, go for it!

- Submitting your fill is *optional*

- The daily deadline (once in effect) is *optional*

- There is no such thing as "doing it wrong"

- This is a great event for experimenting with What Ifs

and AUs

- You don't have to write a full story each time, a single

moment or scene will do!

- If you wanted, each fill could be your OCs or a NPCs dream!

Anything goes!

- Be kind, patient, and forgiving of yourself!

- Hydrate and stretch

- Remember that you are *awesome* and you can do this!

#FFXIVWrite2026 is about a week away! (I know, I know, me too.) If you're thinking about participating, here are some thoughts on what I've learned about how to set myself up for success as I get ready for my fourth year. Free advice, worth what you paid, etc. I believe in you. We've got this. 🖤

Kit’s FFXIV Write advice & cheerleading!

Take as much friction out of the getting-started process as you can. Set up a folder in your writing software of choice and stick some blank docs in there so you can just hit the ground running when the day’s word drops.

Write when there’s time, not when there’s inspiration.

Lots of us have more ideas than we have drafts. This is a perfect time to see if a day’s word moves you to flesh out one of those plot bunnies a little more.

Related to the above: embrace the joys of in media res. Write the bits of the scene you have a vision for and worry about the rest later.

If you’re someone who’s motivated by goals and metrics, set up a tracker in whatever way works for you. I like to set a secret word count goal for myself that I don’t tell anyone about until the month is over.

Experiment! This is a great opportunity to try writing in a different tense, or for an NPC you haven’t written before, or play around with different formats like epistolary or poetry. This is supposed to be fun, so take the opportunity to play!

It’s okay if you skip or miss a day (or two, or ten). Seriously. I promise. You can make it up later if it’s really going to bother you, but try not to let it derail you.

Embrace the messy first draft. It doesn’t have to be complete, it doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be words.

Take breaks. Be kind to your wrists. HAVE FUN.
