We could fund all day orange line service to Plano just by ticketing all the drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians on 14th Street. It’s a madhouse.

Eastbound 15th Street at the DART tracks in downtown Plano. I just watched two cars come flying around this turn at speed, failing to yield to pedestrians and not even signaling. This corner radius is much too large, encouraging cars to whip through it without slowing down.
Intersection with a pair of train tracks followed by a turn in to a parking lot. The turn has a very large radius, allowing cars to blast through it without slowing down.

Riding the Red Line through Richardson this morning. There are sooo many apartments and businesses that are right next to the tracks but far from the station. Such a missed opportunity. I really wish we could get some infill stations in Richardson.

The actions Plano is taking around the DART pullout are absolutely shameful. They’re not seeking discourse. They’ve published a website filled with half truths to manipulate public opinion. Now they’re appointing a “Collin County Connects” committee that consists entirely of Plano residents.

The cities of Highland Park, Farmers Branch, Plano, and Irving have decided to ask their voters whether to leave or remain in DART in May 2026. Here's what the region's rail system might look like if all cities vote to leave:
A map of the DART rail system showing the consequences if Plano, Irving, and Farmers Branch pull out of DART in May 2026. All light rail stations in Irving, Farmers Branch, and Plano are marked as closed, as DART Light Rail service would end in these cities, and all TRE and Silver Line stations in Irving and Plano are marked as potentially closed, as Irving and Plano would have to independently pay DART to maintain these services.

So the lines are drawn. Plano, Irving, Farmers Branch, and Highland Park are holding DART pullout elections on May 2, 2026. All ignored vast amounts of commentary from their residents and workers and called the elections anyway. All expressed being pro public transit while tearing it down.

Southbound Akard has been closed from Main to Commerce for weeks. As a pedestrian, the reduced traffic flow has made the walk so much nicer! Can we make this permanent please?
View from the Discovery District facing north showing the southbound lane of Akard closed. A temporary air conditioner unit is blocking the lane. Barriers and signs protect it.

"DART Killer Bill" Dies in the House
After thousands of emails and calls to Texas House representatives, HB 3187 is dead—but the fight to save DART is not over yet.

I am hearing some Texas reps are getting hundreds of emails per day in opposition to Plano's Kill DART bill. Some say emails don't work but there is apparently a tipping point when their staff can't deal with anything but one issue. Engagement works. Save public transit!

Finished Human Transit! It was very good. I love that he has a whole chapter dedicated to what cities like Plano can do to make their situations better. I’ve been saying forever that the right-of-way of Plano’s 6 lane stroads allow for many options. Glad to see Walker emphasize that too!

Human Transit explains why putting the high speed rail station at Cedars is a mistake. Union Station is right there and already connects to Red, Blue, Dallas Street Car, TRE, and Amtrak. Instead, we’re putting it barely a mile away but where it only connects to Red and Blue. This is an own goal.

Chapter 8 clearly demonstrates why one hour frequencies on the Silver Line is a huge whiff. I can’t realistically plan my flights around the Silver Line train table. If, on average, just waiting for the train is as long as the drive home (and sometimes far worse), it might as well not exist.

The idea that ”urbanists want to ban cars and force everyone to bike everywhere” comes from a car-centric mindset (assuming everyone must rely on one mode and urbanists just want to swap cars for bikes). There are zero cities in the world that I know of where you have to bike to function.

Chapter 5 of Human Transit breaks down flexible vs. fixed routes. Woof, it really shows the folly of Plano’s single GoLink zone proposal. It’s just spending money to spend money and fix one number the city doesn’t like. It’s bad transit policy and will cost much more money to serve fewer people.

One reason I think it’s important to continue to highlight the disparity on our streets is that most people just don’t see it. Despite it being obvious to some, so many people don't have clarity because we have done such an incredible job of normalizing this imbalance.
