Fantastic book highlighting political realism. We were recommended to read it during our first year of politics.

He's mirroring the old Junta. The economy played a factor in Galtieri's decision to hit the Falkland Islands.

What consequences? A stern letter and sanctions? Please. A military response is the best method - at the very minimum they should be giving Ukraine more AD and Taurus.

⚡️⚡️⚡️ ✈️ Zelensky: Today we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, everyone who still uses key Russian airports: Russian skies are becoming completely dangerous. Ukraine does not threaten civil aviation as such - not a single civilian aircraft. 1/3

My reply is - if that's the case then how can you explain the public signalling of deterrence in Europe recently with the missions near Kaliningrad?

This screams misinformation - why would the US fully withdraw? I'm sorry but I know trump is a lunatic, but there are sane people in command positions who will not allow this. This doesn't add up!

Even if it takes more than a regiment, the point holds. Europe underestimates Russia’s drone dominance and experience while overestimating its own preparedness. Short on munitions, speed, and modern warfighting know-how, only the US presence in NATO stops Russia from invading

A limited incursion is all he needs. We are so vastly unprepared and he knows this. He doesn't need to go far, in, hold, and exit and he will achieve his objective while NATO is in complete disarray.

It's classic ruzzian info warfare. No one will gain from using nuclear weapons. It's hardly going to change the battlefield either. We should double down on these "threats".

That's my opinion but like everyone else I'm not privy to the actual reasons of his visit to Moscow.

War News Reader @warreader.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I'm chiming in with the symbolism of the aircraft used. He could have used a government or private civilian one. I say that because ruzzia is a country that reacts to political symbolism. I see it as an example of hard-power, therefore leading me to the assumption of it being NATO related. 1/2

War News Reader @warreader.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
A proper answer is signalling. The ruzzians use symbolism and the US used that to send a message. He could have used the C-40 but instead used that. It's a clear answer that sets the tone of the visit.

It is criminal how the EU won't close the skies down over Ukraine. Those missile attacks are war crimes and yet you're standing on the sidelines complaining. Do something about it because ruzzia is waging war against the West.

ZEIT has collected all the info from the attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport and it was as dangerous and deliberate as we feared: (Translation in alt. Full article: www.zeit.de/politik/deut...)
The videos show the Antonov cargo aircraft parked at the airport. And they appear to show that, as early as Tuesday evening at around 7.30 pm, an object flew directly towards this aircraft. It eventually struck one of the wings. The wings are particularly vulnerable parts of the aircraft because they usually contain fuel tanks. Anyone wishing to cause an aircraft to explode would detonate a bomb there. However, that is not what happened in Leipzig. The footage suggests that the object bounced off the wing and fell to the ground. Marks on one of the Antonov’s wings confirm this presumed sequence of events. It is as yet unclear why the explosive device did not detonate. It is now clearer exactly how the drone approached the aeroplane: not cautiously, but with the obvious intention of damaging it.
It is also clearer what purpose it served. Until now, one of the hypotheses under investigation was that it might simply have been intended as a kind of warning. Armed, yes, but not intended to actually explode. This hypothesis can now hardly be sustained. Leipzig Airport narrowly escaped a devastating attack.

According to a confidential police report obtained by WDR, NDR, and the SZ, the Antonov cargo plane parked next to the explosive-laden drone discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport was loaded with military ammunition recently transported from France for onward transit. - Tagesschau

Unusual drone sighting situation at Leipzig airport in Germany: a drone, possibly armed with some kind of explosive, has been found on the ground at Leipzig airport. Later, an aircraft reported a collision with an unknown object. More info certainly to follow. www.bild.de/regional/lei...

Day 1619 of Ukraine being forced to fight for its freedom, its very existence. Of course the war had been going on for 12 years and, having been a very small part of EuroMaidan, I don't forget that. But only since 2022 has the threat become existential. Here's Friday's daily🧵

As one commentator suggested: expel the ruzzian embassy staff firstly and secondly I would threaten strikes against the launch areas of the drones or a show of force using nuclear capable aircraft such as the B52.
