Loved rocking my Sean Price (aka Jesus Price Supastar) "Jesus is my Homeboy" t-shirt but had to retire it when I started getting way too many compliments from evangelicals who were obviously unfamiliar with the source material...

I really wish some people I would love to subscribe to leave this site so that I may do so in good conscious. I really do not understand any reason for staying. (cc @radleybalko.bsky.social, @atrupar.com, @mehdirhasan.bsky.social, @sulliview.bsky.social etc.)

The consequences of producing literally zero usable munitions for $533 million apparently include $2.5 billion more in future contracts. Glad to see so much accountability after spending trillions on these companies. Especially since our stockpiles have been depleted after only a few months...
Reporting Highlights

Ready, Fire, Aim: In a rushed process exempted from normal rules, the Army hired General Dynamics, which brought on a Turkish subcontractor with little vetting, to make artillery shells.
Money for Nothing: Despite being paid $533 million, General Dynamics did not produce a single usable shell at its new factory — and has not been held publicly accountable.
Wages of Failure: Since the Army halted two production lines at the factory, the General Dynamics unit responsible for the debacle has received contract awards totaling $2.5 billion.

Incredible quote from New York journalist John Swinton given at a banquet in reply to a toast to the "Independent Press." This most likely occurred in 1880 but could just as easily be levied against the corporate access journalists of today...
Quotation by journalist John Swinton in 1880 in reply to a toast to the Independent Press that reads: "There is no such thing in America as an independent press, unless it is in the small towns. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write his honest opinions, and if you did you know beforehand that they would never appear in print...The business of the New York journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell his race and his country for his daily bread. You know this and I know it, and what folly is this to be toasting an 'Independent Press.' We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

The flu killed almost as many US soldiers as combat in WWI www.military.com/history/this...
American combat deaths in World War I totaled 54,402. But about 45,000 American soldiers died of influenza and related pneumonia by the end of 1918.
