As an employer, I'd have to admit I would be a bit reluctant too. Not because of the age (I am living proof age doesn't matter, skills do), but because of the salary expectations, and the increased risk of someone "being off sick" for a long time, which as a small business I can't really afford.

And add to that the miserable state the NHS is in, so even if you get a proper diagnosis, getting help is a long time off. A friend can't walk because of a busted knee, her doctor doesn't even want to approve knee replacement. She's hardly left the house in over a year, now saving for an op abroad.

The problem is that the Scottish government doesn't have a lot of means and power to do something about it. The root causes of many drug related problems are abject poverty and no prospects for improvement whatsoever. Which is a situation that has been decades in the making, long before devolution.

If a legal route would be established, boat crossings would stop overnight, as figures show the vast majority of people crossing are succesful in their asylum claim. People don't want to pay thousands to smugglers and risk their lives if there is no need. The UK deliberately sustains this.
