I did not fully stop consuming caffeine, but I went to tea only, and there are a few companies that make sets of pills with tapering down dosages and I found this useful. Almost painless versus going cold turkey and psychologically easier than drinking, like, a quarter of a cup of coffee or w/e.

I'm not a Stephen King historian, but roughly, The Gunslinger would be pre cocaine. Dark Tower 2 and 3 would be in the cocaine years and 4 would be post cocaine(I think?). 5 thru 7 were post car accident, which is also post cocaine but he did have some issues with opioids in that period.
