Why doesn't Google scholar find postprint servers? It complains about papers not being openly available when papers have been on a postprint server for more than 10 years...

59 in-scope papers classified — 26 CORRECT, 13 INCORRECT, 20 UNCLEAR. A further ~10 papers were excluded (outside the 12-month window or not actually applicable — see Part 4), and roughly a dozen additional leads in OCT/ultrasound could not be fully verified due to paywalls

training. For each paper, the question is whether the train/validation/test split was performed at the patient (or whole-volume / whole-slide) level — correct — or at the slice/patch/image level — incorrect, causing data leakage and inflated performance metrics.

This report covers papers that (a) split a 3D medical imaging volume (MRI, CT, OCT, ultrasound) into 2D slices and trained a 2D CNN or 2D vision transformer for classification or segmentation, or (b) split a digital pathology whole-slide image (WSI) into 2D patches for CNN/ViT

To learn Claude Cowork, I created an AI agent which searches for papers using 2D models on 3D medical volumes, to see if each paper did a patient wise split (correct) or a slice/image wise split (incorrect, data leakage). The results are pretty depressing...

Dont email a professor and ask if they will hire a PhD student in 2027. I have no idea if I will have funding to hire someone a year from now. In fact very few companies know if they will hire someone a year from now.

So glad to finally share work years in the making! What started with fMRI effect size benchmarks ended up showing that conventional study planning detects ~half of expected brain effects, suggesting more distributed processes than the lit shows (+ new methods for mass univ effect/power estimation)

A useful thing about MoltBook is that it provides a visceral sense of how weird a "take-off" scenario might look if one happened for real MoltBook itself is more of an artifact of AI shared roleplaying (not new), but it gives people a vision of the world where things get very strange, very fast.
