sometimes I look over to my bookshelves and sigh the only thing I remember about it is that it was nowhere near as compelling as other books I was reading at the time

has there ever been a moment where the third way shtick has rung more hollow? I get that the overwhelming asymmetry at play in terms of policy pursuits makes it pretty impossible to thread that tired middle path, but it also makes equivalency in fault and continuing on look ridiculous

when you know the caveats are extensive but decide to publish anyways there is a place for first-order analysis, but in its overuse it's earning a spot in my heart next to dynamic scoring

I found this headline/framing amusing yesterday, they've been extremely on-message about "AI factories" and getting more data centers built and such in the past, but now the NYT branding is "oh actually we're gonna somehow make people like data centers"

Currently, I have a specific stack of recently-acquired related non-fiction books I dip into between other things as I noodle on a project but yeah, books are good, idk, read them

bonus #2&3 When We Cease to Understand the World and The MANIAC by Benjamín Labatut These are somewhere between fact and fiction on the math and physics minds of the 20th century and retain an incredibly lyrical prose despite being translated into English, my faves of the year when I read them

"I don't have physical copies of these or maybe I lent them out and/or lost them" bonus #1 Mastering the Grain Markets: How Profits are Really Made by Elaine Kub read this when I was several interviews deep for a geospatial intelligence firm focused on ag commodities, hard to find humble traders!

pulled a few off of the non-fiction shelves in my office to recommend (tbh, I read way, way more fiction than non) 1. The Price of Peace - A Keynes (mostly) bio I quite enjoyed, that also delves into what Keynes wanted societally and how it faded. Also, I didn't know how many famous people he knew

also, looking at these, unless I'm missing something, we already see issues where large electronic loads do not/can not/will not come back online quickly once they've switched to backups (see: virginia events), so will they actually comply here?

trying and failing to put myself in the mindset of someone who puts defense and data-integration-for-defense companies in the non-conformist quadrant just a couple of the bizarre choices here, which I think may be a reflection of an "I'm in tech and ignore politics/the world" ethos

don't worry though, they've designed it to be defeated by. . . standard hallways? if you don't have a standard hallway, the robot centaur will be stealing your soul to feed the insatiable appetite of the machine gods

Ryan Wiser has been out there saying this work (their work) has been over leveraged in this direction The data there is also necessarily dated, ends before most AI buildout, e.g. VA has seen increases. Also been a persistent conflation of crypto in ND with current AI.

PJM's MMU absolutely goes in on data centers and the market in their (937 page lol) Q1 report from Thursday 🔌💡 which isn't surprising if you're familiar with Monitoring Analytics! wavg LMP was up ~68% for Q1 from last year thread of quotes from the intro 🧵
