If my 'employer' unilaterally opted out of all these things, and simultaneously proposed vacating its place of business, I’d assume I was out of work and either (a) not turn up, or (b) make sure I received oustanding wages cash-in-hand at the earliest opportunity.

It's just weird isn't it when the British Museum is running a sold-out exhibition, when The Odyssey reports $1billion at the box office, when the V&A has just opened the most innovative and accessible museum model in Europe....and this is what our minister for research comes out with.

I'm old enough to remember when men wearing balaclavas/ ski masks, intimidating people through their number and anonymity were called 'Terrorists'. Times change I guess? Protesting it is now. Good people on both sides? Is that it? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

If they have no visible message, is it a protest? Or just a bunch of thugs blocking the road? It is legal to hold a static protest in a public place, but not to block traffic/commerce – why haven't they been arrested and removed? Like when Just Stop Oil blocked roads. www.bbc.com/news/article...

THIS
Long before the first grant was frozen, graduate students were noticing a quieter set of contradictions. They were told that teaching matters while watching excellent teachers struggle for recognition. They were encouraged to engage with the public while learning that public scholarship rarely counts toward career advancement. They were told that mentorship is central to academic culture while watching faculty who pour themselves into students get passed over for colleagues with longer publication lists. They entered science hoping to improve society and discovered that the system rewards productivity more reliably than it rewards care.

I don’t have many good things to say about Truro School, but Watson Weeks helped me ‘get’ Shakespeare by performing it rather than just having us read it. That influenced not only my own degree but, 40 years on, my daughter is headed to drama school with no fear of Shakespeare.

At 5.30am, my cat clambered in the 1st floor window, walked over my face and curled up in a washing basket. The disturbed curtain wafted a balloon *towards* the desktop fan (somehow), which, apparently globophobic, fell over in shock and ejected its face. The rest of the day has been much the same.

I absolutely agree with this, but I also think mass social detachment is a response to a world that has consistently demanded more while reciprocating less we study for jobs that don’t exist. we work but can’t afford our lives. we rinse our recyclables but billionaires destroy the world —

“Come in, I'll put the kettle on” became a reluctant “Shall I put the kettle on?” became “I haven’t got any milk – I wasn’t expecting anyone” became “Give us a moment, nobody’s properly dressed” became a muffled “[*sigh*] ... What?!!”

We know that despite advances for disabled students, access issues still drive withdrawals from study. UK universities are responding to 'market' forces and government policies by shrinking access to degrees that afford disabled students good access to university. That's a problem, isn't it? 5/5
