oh yea, my time passage sense is very good and I just gotta recalibrate it to a clock every so often. I used to be an absolute menace in Mario Party 2's Space Land duels, where you win by pressing a button after exactly X seconds

I'm very good at answering "what time is it?", within 10 minutes' error, without looking at a clock. it's not 100% -- I lose track of time in hyperfocus and when highly stressed -- but it's a solid 90%ish

turns out that tennis (w/a hangover), weightlifting, a blood draw and COVID + flu vaccines (w/a needle phobia), work/financial stress, and a few kinds of sadness rooted in a pervasive sense of alienation can, in fact, make you feel physically and mentally awful everything hurts and I'm going to bed

sort of related, Winamp had a "Highly Experimental" plugin to emulate the PS1/PS2 sound chips, and I found a rip of the Chrono Cross soundtrack, so I'd just leave "The Brink of Death" to loop indefinitely while doing schoolwork. for a bit, this video brought back that feeling of computers as magical

Hathaway did a lot with fairly little, Circe's scene was a standout, and the scenery is *very* pretty. I think it unsuccessfully splits the difference between adaptation and standalone movie and falls short of both goals, but it's worth seeing in a theater (with earplugs) once

saw the Odyssey last night, here's my review: it was very pretty in many places, we finally got our portentous Zendaya x Matt Damon in Situations™️ crossover, the audio leads could have used more chill, and while I think Emily Wilson's essay was uncharitable, she's basically correct on the merits

imo, this scratches at the one kernel of truth in a whirlwind of anti-trans moral panic: different folks do have different hormone levels and skill ceilings to match but, uh, two problems: - for amateur sports, effort is a stronger determinant of success - this isn't defined by sex chromosomes!

anecdotally, same. I used to trust their routing over my own, because I'd go "wtf that route sucks" and do something else and end up in a traffic jam. this year, I've second-guessed it half a dozen times and ended up with a better ETA every single time
