If the UK government thinks this is a serious threat, they should consider a referendum to rejoin the EU. That would neutralize a lot of the sentiment, and we've got a decade of data suggesting Brexit was a catastrophe. Just start over, and quash the national rebellions while you're at it.

I'm not sure your median Vancouverite is subscribed to the city's bulletins (the stuff at the top that is actually about tariffs, saying we'll follow whatever Carney does, is in line with popular sentiment)

I love it when the press release from the City of Vancouver about our response to tariffs becomes (checks notes) a pledge for ABC not to raise property taxes next year.

"In times like these, what people need most is certainty. That's what this Vancouver City Council is focused on delivering, in every part of how we serve our city.

"It means taking care of the basics: keeping our roads and sidewalks in good repair, and running a city that works for the people who live here. It means giving families, whether they rent or own, some economic stability to count on. That's why we froze property taxes this year, and are committed to doing the same next year."

"In uncertain times, we must create more certainty. We are achieving this with a City government that shows up, remains focused, and helps us look after each other, no matter what's happening around us.

"That's why now, more than ever, we need to come together. Being compassionate, kind and caring toward one another isn't separate from good governance. It's the foundation of it. Our City Council will keep providing the stability Vancouverites need and deserve—on affordability, on public safety, and on everything that matters to this city."
