i don't think it actually even counts as "math results" rather than "unverified theorem prover bug reports" if nobody has made sense of what it actually does

if you want to be really annoying this is xterm colors right (arguably ISO/IEC colors, but the standard is very ambiguous as to the exact syntax and real-world implementations are unambiguously non-compliant since they skip the color space parameter, which the standard fails to specify values of)

the thing is that all US states but Louisiana inherited all pre-indepensence British law, and all of them have other ways to change your name now, but all but a few of those don't have wording *repealing* deed polls, and courts have broadly ruled that they're still a legally valid method
020
vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
the reason nobody mentions this in the US is because nobody will believe you if you tell them this is what the law says.

vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
fwiw this doesn't matter at all but while afaik the term "deed poll" is UK-specific the legal concept exists in most common law jurisdictions (incl. all but a few US states)

Yes, I fell for the "Got your nose" trick, but that shouldn't distract us from the real issue of nose theft in our society

their losses went up a bit over 2x year-over-year but also they grew by literally an order of magnitude, so

the theory is that a valuation is, like, 100% of this year's profit, plus 90% of next year's profits, plus 90% of 90% of the year after that, and so on

(but also based on the article the OP seems to be implying that Anthropic is a bad investment because their valuation is going up?? if i understand correctly most of the losses are because they owe early investors shares at already locked-in prices)

isn't her entire argument "LLMs can't understand non-standard dialects, which is bad because it will homogenize language"? the premise is what's being disputed, not whether the conclusion follows, but she keeps trying to redirect the conversation to the latter

really hope that the message people take away from all the EA sex parties stuff is "don't import inherently coercive real life employer/employee or mentor/mentee dynamics into your edgeplay kink spaces" and not "THEY DO THE IMMORAL KIND OF SEX DISGUSTING"

afaik hdd manufacturers won't process warranty claims without the original receipt so it being open-box immediately craters the value

if you mean reflection wise both java and c++26 reflection work on closures, afaik

isn't an upvalue just a bound variable?
200
vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
fwiw i got very confused reading this at first by upvalues being called a "feature" and not just a term for a concept inherent to closures

to heavily simplify water is cycled within a datacenter to move heat around, and then that heat is used to boil water with the steam pumped outside in order to get the heat outside the building. the former water does need to be clean but also doesn't need to be continuously replenished
080
vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
many data centers use potable water because there isn't sufficient infrastructure to distribute non-potable water but this is not a requirement (ex. google has bragged about "more than 25%" of their datacenters using non-potable water sources)

using labelers for purposes other than moderation is kind of bad because you are giving the owner the power to ban people from your view of the network (the UI should really explicitly say this when you subscribe to one....)

vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
id recommend setting your pronouns using witchsky.app (or another third party client) so people on other clients can see them without the labeler though

vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
it looks like they implemented it on a branch but decided not to merge it before a profile editor redesign that still hasn't happened. Awesome
110
vriska @vriska.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
wait is the pronouns field still not rolled out on the official client? server-side support has existed for like a year and most third party clients have it
