Giggling at all these Polish people with the flags and signs who bought tickets weeks ago thinking they’d probably see Swiatek here and they get to have a party anyway! You gotta love sports!

I have been thinking A LOT about the last time we had an overtly sexist officiating-centered incident like this: Fognini/2017 US Open. (You may recall his “peanuts” comment about his on-site fine at the time.) ~Something~ tells me the powers that be remember all that, & recalibrated appropriately.

The subtext underneath the tournament choosing Eva Asderaki-Moore to officiate Kouame’s next match after the Vallejo nonsense is speaking very loudly, and I love it.

When you consider how/when Vallejo seemingly said this (no transcript, small media room—maybe even a 1 on 1—in a language other than English), it would’ve been easy for the tournament to look the other way. Kudos to RG & the FFT for being swift & not standing for it. www.espn.co.uk/tennis/story...

After what I believed to be a first at RG, women umpired all five finals here, too. #Wimbledon MS: Alison Hughes 🇬🇧 WS: Miriam Bley 🇩🇪 MD: Louise Azemar Engzell 🇸🇪 WD: Kelly Rask 🇬🇧 XD: Eva Asderaki-Moore 🇬🇷 Had we had even 1% of the investment in women they’ve shown in the last 10-15 years sooner…

I have seen more close-ups of Taylor Fritz’s bleeding elbow in the last two weeks than I hoped to see in my entire life.

Great point by Courtney Gross on @spectrumnewsny1.bsky.social. The portrait of the City painted by Andrew Cuomo (and many of the city's elites) as a crime-ridden, apocalyptic hellhole ... it just doesn't match what most New Yorkers see every day.

I just hope for their own sakes someone at TNT tells TNT this was not a normal Championship Weekend. It’s not always like this!

For all y’all who are like, “wHy Is ThIs A BiG dEaL?”: I have been doing this a long time (A Long Time™) and I can never recall this happening. The 2018 US Open famously had four (you may recall the one that wasn’t, perhaps) and even *that* was a rarity. So much has gone into this moment.

With a first Grand Slam final for Miriam Bley. We love to see it.

A cool footnote on this tournament that I would be remiss to not tell you: All five of the finals at Roland Garros this year have been umpired by women. MS: Eva Asderaki-Moore 🇬🇷 WS: Marijana Veljovic 🇷🇸 MD: Aurélie Tourte 🇫🇷 WD: Miriam Bley 🇩🇪 XD: Morgane Lara 🇫🇷

In addition to the bigger problems, calling Jackie Robinson unworthy demonstrates an unbelievable lack of ball-knowing. Upon hearing "they called Jackie Robinson DEI," normal people will be astounded to learn how little ball the regime knows. Impossible to know less ball

When I was 20 in j-school, I asked CN to be a subject-matter expert for a writing assignment. She didn’t hesitate to say yes—& I am where I am b/c she gave a kid who wanted to write about tennis (umpires) a listening ear (& more). There will never be enough words to say thank you, my friend. 🫶

Somebody get me on this The Floor show so I can pick “Tennis Players” as a category. Finally, somewhere where I can win $250,000 by correctly identifying Katarina Zavatska on sight.

This is seriously the first Grand Slam final to get to 5-5 in the third since the 2012 US Open? As I have maintained for many years, all roads lead to that tournament.

Never would I have predicted that Badosa would close the match out like that after what transpired from 5-2. Two aces, an unreturnable, and a forehand winner.

Currently watching a meta Hallmark Christmas movie in which the actress who plays Mona on Pretty Little Liars is the star of a Christmas movie franchise who comes to life and helps a woman fill out her Christmas list. I want to watch this movie every day for the rest of my life.

Back from vacation just in time to watch Rebecca Sramkova smoke two dozen winners to put 🇸🇰 into the BJK Cup semis. Her ascent has been one of my favorite sleeper stories of 2024.
