I've done CGA entries for the early machines before, this time round I'm thinking 'End Of DOS', the late days where you quit shitty ol windows to play some *real games* in dos

Having some conflict between my vision and the 'sensible' MSDOS resolutions around 320x240, might go vesa and try 640x480, which seems that an absolutely decadent number of pixels. Testing 640x480 in dosbox with some silly rectangle drawing:

"here's a game I made 10% of! the other 90% was made by the copyright-ignoring slop machine" doesn't reflect the spirit of gamejams at all, for me personally ludumdare.com/resources/qu...

Now that the #ldjam site is back up I'm tempted to participate in the upcoming gamejam, but the permissive AI stance is really offputting. I understand it being difficult to police / enforce a 'no AI' rule, but explicitly allowing someone to ai-gen 90% of their art without opting out of 'graphics'?

okay well apparently just because an image previews correctly in the bsky post editor doesn't mean it'll survive the bsky upload and mogrification processes

Will try and do a #gamejam thread for #mstres, starting with an attempt at a rotoscoped run animation. Trying to embody the concept of "make it exist first, make it good later"

I think dosgameclub are having some kind of qbasic jam early 2027, might be a good time for this concept

(sorry for randomly replying to an old post) it's often down to missing permissions in your browser for a given site. If canvas permissions aren't enabled (usually for privacy reasons) then you get these weird placeholder images uploaded instead. Happens to me regularly

I've played the first hour of this so many times and always walk away thinking that the game seems more like a (bad) satire of the book than an attempt to emulate the mood or world.

I'm playing as both teams here. There's a few movement order options, move slow and fire fast, or dash without being able to shoot etc. Units invincible from the front, vulnerable from side, weak from the back. #dreamcast #gamedev

spooked myself when doing some #dreamcast #gamedev . I haven't implemented any kind of mesh animation yet but when I made this quick test character, they seemed to turn their head to follow me (head had inverted normals and is drawn 'in reverse')

Hadrosaurus Software - Enigma Heart DEMO OUT NOW! @hadrosaurus.net · 23/09/2025
Most of the work on Enigma Heart for the past few weeks has been building environments and writing scripts for the end of the first act. We're getting close! ➡️ store.steampowered.com/app/2986980/... ➡️ hadrosoft.itch.io/enigma-heart #GameDev #IndieGame #IndieDev #PixelArt #EnigmaHeart
A screenshot of Enigma Heart: a pixel art scene of a room in a medieval-style house with timber framing an walls that are gray brick at the base before transitioning to lavender plaster. There is a table with a sword and shield on it, a bookshelf, a bed flanked by two nightstands, a fireplace, and a table with a bowl of fruit on it, along with firewood in piles near the fireplace. Zalia, the heroine of the game: a dark-skinned woman with a purple streak in her hair and wearing purple, white, and teal, stands in the middle of the room. On the nightstand is a portrait of Esme, her love interest: a woman with red hair. A status bar at the top of the screenshot shows the player's health, level, mana, and experience.A screenshot of Enigma Heart: a pixel art scene of the interior of a building made of red wood with light-colored hardwood floors. The room is a boat workshop: filled with workbenches, half-filled boats, sails, and an anchor. There's a brick fireplace against the wall, and a bed in the foreground. In the room are Gage, a man wearing a leather apron and a very bright green hat, and Zalia, the main character, a woman wearing purple and white and teal, and with a purple streak in her hair.Pixel art scene from Enigma Heart. Zalia and Priscilla are on a dock: Zalia sitting on a crate, Priscilla standing. The long tails of Priscilla's pirate-style headband are blowing in the window. Both have their backs turned to the camera. It's sunset, with the sky in shades of gold, orange, and purple, with gold and orange clouds. The lighting is low, and slightly reddish. The ocean stretches off to the horizon.

A text box, indicating Zalia is speaking, reads, "This is nice."Zalia is climbing a ladder through a thin vertical tunnel deep in a dark cave. The only light in the scene is cast off by glowing mushrooms, giving the entire scene an eerie cyan glow.

In the middle of the screen, a horizontal tunnel cuts across Zalia's path. There are two spinning blade discs inside the horizontal tunnel, that presumably move back and forth. Inside, as if shredded by them, is a dead goblin.

it goes further: Yu Suzuki had a oh-shit-the-boss-is-here button installed on his devkits that'd corrupt the screen and make the game look visibly "unfinished", in order to keep his boss from trying to force the game out the door ASAP shmuplations.com/afterburner/
The color of the sky was also something that came from a bug, from wiping the color RAM on the PCB. At the time, we had worked up a pretty sky background with nice color gradations… and, well, this is a little bit of a digression, but President Nakayama used to visit our office from time to time.

The thing with Nakayama was, if he saw that the graphics were complete in your game, he would tell you it was done and it was time to release it. Nevertheless, we couldn’t just hide the game from him and show him nothing when he came by. So I rigged up a little switch underneath my desk…

—(laughs)

Suzuki: When I pressed that switch it would wipe the color RAM. You could wipe the color RAM, and it wouldn’t affect the rest of the game—everything would keep running, just the colors would get all glitched. To a layperson, it would look like the game wasn’t complete yet. Well, one time we did this, and randomly, the colors of the sky looked extremely striking. Then I used our development tool ICE to stop the CPU and extract the color RAM data, and those became the colors we used for Space Harrier.
