Cambridge is leaving X. Our policy order to take the city off the platform passed unanimously Monday night. Yesterday morning, the city posted a final farewell message—and then went dark. Thread below on how we got here and what we do next

We ran on making Cambridge an affordable and dignified city to live in, and making sure the most vulnerable people are heard. Everyday issues for working people were the driving force behind our campaign, and we will carry their voices into City Hall.

I am so grateful for everyone who has worked so hard on this campaign. All that work comes down to this. I know from experience that every vote matters. Please text your friends and make sure they have a plan to vote by 8pm!
Morse Elementary School was a destination for a few candidates hoping to get out the vote. Ayah Al-Zubi arrived at 7:00 AM just as polls were beginning to open, with fellow challenger Elizabeth Bisio arriving soon after.

“I’m feeling grateful,” Al-Zubi said. “I feel like I’m running on adrenaline, caffeine, and faith.”

Al-Zubi was out until 4:00 AM this morning, leaving campaign literature on as many doorsteps as possible. Al-Zubi has led one of the most impressive volunteer efforts this race, with over 100 people working to help her get out the vote.

Al-Zubi came in 10th out of the nine available city council seats in the 2023 race. This year, she thinks her odds of making it onto council are better. “Compared to 2023, we’ve doubled to tripled our fundraising. We’ve doubled to tripled our field strategy,” she said. “So we’re putting it all on the line, and we feel like that hopefully will give us the results that we’re looking for.”

I am so grateful for this endorsement from Erin Axelman, the director of @israelismfilm.com. We both know that the only true safety is shared safety, and our fight for dignity is a fight for dignity for ALL.

@mikeconnollyma.bsky.social is our OG democratic socialist state rep, and his leadership continues to pave the way for a rising cadre of bold leftist leaders changing the status quo on Beacon Hill. I am so grateful for his support in our race for Cambridge City Council.

The disastrous lapse in SNAP benefits has put a spotlight on food insecurity — an issue that was already getting worse here, especially with the loss of the Daily Table. But we can fill that void, while giving the grocery chains some healthy competition. It's time for a city-owned grocery store.

Housing is a human right — and should be treated as a public good. Our campaign's vision is to leverage government resources for permanent affordability.

It takes more than one person to change things in a city of almost 120,000. It takes a movement — and that is what we are building.
They’ve popped up all over town – blue and green campaign signs with “Ayah Al-Zubi” emblazoned over the outline of the John Weeks Bridge. While the signs depict only one name, when Al-Zubi talks about her campaign, the word she uses the most is “we.”

“We feel like we’re building a new era of politics through our campaign, where we lead with education and empowerment first, and not necessarily the same old politics.”

At the heart of this campaign is a simple idea: everyone deserves dignity. And when we say everyone, we really mean everyone. That is why I am so honored to accept the #1 endorsement of Cambridge for Palestine.

Quotes from Ayah's Cambridge for Palestine candidate questionnaire:

"Foreign affairs and domestic affairs are inextricably intertwined—the U.S. government and U.S. corporations supply the funds, weapons, and surveillance systems used to carry out this genocide and occupation."

"I'd be so excited to work on a Divestment Campaign in 2026"

"Each of these candidates represent the progressive, justice-centered leadership that we believe Cambridge needs right now, Mandy Zhang'27, president of the Harvard College Democrats, said in an interview."We believe that young people and students have a critical role to play, and we want them engaged," Al-Zubi said. "There's such a powerful role that our young people play in politics, and local politics is no exception to that."

Climate change is happening NOW, which means more flash floods. Cambridge needs to get more proactive in addressing our sewer overflows, which expose residents to dangerous untreated wastewater. I support better infrastructure in Alewife Brook + other climate solutions to address this. #mapoli

Affordability goes to the heart of our values. What kind of Sanctuary City are we, if we force our most vulnerable out? Standing up to Trump is one part of the fight. Keeping our community inclusive, affordable, and dignified is the other. Make no mistake, these issues are interconnected.
Screenshot from The Harvard Crimson:

"Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine A. Elow said that federal immigration agents have contacted CPD six times this year related to enforcement actions. While the department has refused to cooperate due to its sanctuary city laws, ICE has arrested at least one person in Cambridge this year."

"'We have to push back against the Trump administration and support our residents, while also advancing on key issues in our city,' Al-Zubi said. 'In our campaign, we believe these two are interconnected.'"

Social housing just makes sense. It creates truly mixed-income communities. It's self sustaining. And it can add hundreds of new homes across the city, including many that are deeply affordable. Projects that are publicly owned & democratically controlled. www.thecrimson.com/article/2025... #mapoli
Screenshot from The Harvard Crimson:

"Challenger Ayah Al-Zubi ’23 has proposed the construction of new social housing in Cambridge, an idea garnering support across the field. Social housing is a form of publicly funded development that includes mixed-income units, some affordable and others even reaching market rate."

"'What we would need to do to make that happen is leverage our triple A bond rating and create a revolving loan so that our city can invest directly into housing that we know can sustainably remain affordable,' Al-Zubi said."
