you can also rent sewing machines at makerspaces if you're in a city, or like, learn which old ladies in town sew and borrow their machines. it's a bougie hobby, but it's not inherently more expensive to learn than like, video games or an ipad. You Can Teach Yourself To Sew Clothes

machine sewing and hand sewing are different skills, and unless you're REALLY into hand sewing, almost nobody is making garments entirely by hand these days, and if machine sewing is your ultimate goal, you can just do it. you will never finish a garment by hand first if that's not your passion
