This is what those enlisteds were cheering for. This is what anyone of conscience is resisting. With no ID or warrant, in blacked-out SUVs, they drew a rifle on a pastor giving advice to a congregant during a detention. AT HER CHURCH. THEN THEY LAUGHED AT HER. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/11/u...
The Rev. Tanya Lopez, senior pastor of Downey Memorial Christian Church, said she was in her office on Wednesday when three SUVs with tinted windows pulled up to her church. Then, Ms. Lopez said, five men, some wearing badges and tan bulletproof vests that said “POLICE,” rushed out of the vehicles and detained a man in the parking lot.

The men, Ms. Lopez said, refused to identify which agency they worked for, and they did not share their names or badge numbers when asked. Their vehicles had out-of-state license plates. They also did not provide a warrant, she said.

They took the man into a black SUV. And, Ms. Lopez said that as she shouted instructions in Spanish to the man inside the vehicle, an agent drew a rifle at her.

“It came across as essentially a final warning, to step back,” Ms. Lopez said, adding that the men then laughed at her and “started cracking up.”

She said she did not know the man and believed him to be someone just passing by the church at the time.

Eventually, they drove away with the man they had detained, leaving Downey, a predominately Latino city about 12 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, fearful amid reports of federal immigration raids across California.

“I’m incredibly shaken,” Ms. Lopez said, her voice breaking as she fought back tears. “It’s when I’m quiet and when I have a moment to catch my breath that it really hits me.”

Excerpt from a 2018 article back when Trump tried to bypass/destroy NEPA then.
A screenshot of a portion of a news article from 2018, stating “NEPA is fundamentally about community empowerment and democratic decision-making, both of which require people to have access to information. When a state or local government wants to use federal funds to build something, it must first complete an environmental review. This review is intended to discover any significant individual or cumulative environmental impacts that the project would create. These impacts could include anything from habitat fragmentation and species loss to adverse social, economic, health, or cultural effects on low-income individuals or communities of color. As part of the review process, the public has the right to comment on the proposed project. Before a project can receive federal approval, the state or local government sponsor must address these comments and, where possible, make changes to mitigate community and environmental impacts. In short, NEPA is the sunshine that illuminates governmental planning, allowing the public to understand and shape proposed projects before a single shovel goes into the ground. Importantly, the federal government did not stumble into requiring environmental review. NEPA is not the result of thoughtless regulatory accretion. The law represents a hard-fought political victory decades in the making. Congress enacted NEPA in 1969 because the status quo of developing projects behind closed doors and without careful study had produced truly dreadful results.” Just in case anyone was wondering why getting rid of NEPA is a terrifying thing to propose.

Today the Supreme Court privileged the tax savings of a religiously-funded non-profit entity over the welfare of the individual. We have serious concerns about the potential implications of this decision.
A quote from Fish Stark, Executive Director @ AHA, which reads: "This isn’t the first time we’ve seen employers attempt to use their faith as an excuse to deny services and protections for their workers – from Hobby Lobby to Catholic Charities, the religious right continues to undermine the principle that it is the government’s role to meet our basic human needs. Today’s decision is yet another wake-up call for secular Americans: the fight for equality and freedom for ourselves and our community still needs us."

Protect electronic device privacy from unlawful search and seizure at borders: create legislation
Text SIGN PKTHBL to 50409 — The current state of electronic device searches at the border is unacceptable and a clear violation of privacy rights. The inconsistent legal landscape across different jurisdictions breeds confusion, uncertainty, and enables potential abuse by government agents. At this moment, whether you fly into San Francisco vs Boston vs Atlanta, there are three different rulings on exactly which part of your phone can be searched, for what purposes, and what level of suspicion is needed. A number of lower courts have ruled on the issue, but there has not been uniformity. This patchwork of conflicting rules fails to provide clear guidelines and safeguards to protect the substantial privacy interests involved when border agents can potentially access the most intimate details of a person's life contained on their electronic devices. The government's claimed authority to conduct warrantless, suspicionless searches of travelers' phones, laptops and other devices is an unconstitutional overreach that flies in the face of the Fourth Amendment's protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. The Supreme Court must definitively weigh in to close this constitutional loophole and establish nationwide standards that uphold civil liberties. Congress also has an obligation to step in and legislate clear rules that prevent unwarranted invasions of privacy during border crossings. The status quo is unacceptable - it is imperative that action be taken to ensure robust safeguards are in place to protect the rights of both citizens and non-citizens alike when traveling with electronic devices. The current environment enabling unfettered government overreach must not persist.
