I love working with charcoal. Charcoal Pine is one of my personal favorites, and many people own a print of it around the world. I love hearing from people who say something like, "I rented a cottage in the mountains and this was hanging on the wall!"

I didn't have three weeks to modernize 30 year old C++. Getting the 90s codebase to compile without razzle, using modern C++, not to mention hidpi was the kind of undertaking that previously took a team. Not an exaggeration. I wanted to be able to release a version that actually still ran.

I’m a neurological mess: I like change, I change everything; but I like stability. I like chaos, I enjoy chaos; but I like order. weird is good; I’m good with weird; but I like boringly normal. I depend on routines; but I intentionally break them. Dear ADHD, and Autisim: Can you get a room please!

Bsky is not logging in on mobile, and I'm too lazy to reauth. This limits me to the web version: Cannot be happier. 1. No stupid "would you like to enable notifications to pour more gasoline on your ADHD?" 2. No impulse to "just scroll." 3. total control. If I want to go to bsky, it's deliberate.

Some speculations on the future of the software developer as a subcultural figure, post vibecoding open.substack.com/pub/isthisan...
Cover image for "Death of a Software Developer" on isthisanart.substack.com. Dark green-tinted composite of two images: the upper half shows what appears to be a detail of a figurative oil painting, the lower half shows multiple monitors displaying code — looks like Solidity smart contract output and Python terminal errors. The title is set in large white serif type.
