this is an interesting study, but it's immensely frustrating how autism is treated like a genetic black box instead of something that is also neurological, developmental and *sociological* in nature. this group was *37%* of participants, the largest subtype! there are more factors at play here!
"The Social and Behavioral Challenges group had more mutations in genes that became active after birth, Litman and Troyanskaya say, which could explain why these participants did not have developmental delays and tended to be diagnosed later than those in the other three groups."

I couldn't catch the ribbon before it disappeared through my fingers, slipping through the bars of the railing keeping me from the river.
It was hers, but perhaps it didn't belong to me.
The wind carried its scarlet length trailing towards the water, carried downstream and out of sight. My fingers still splayed as if to hold anything at all, as if the image of her hair tied up might fade from view like the fragile fabric whisked away from me.
It didn't matter now. My hands had made a decision before my mind could. I stood rooted in the spot, in the futile hope that something would return to me.
When my hands began to tremble, I walked away.

been trying to write some flash fiction
Breathe in.
The static doesn't dissipate, but it's the only fresh air you'll get.
Tastes of metal on the tongue.
Slowly, slowly, the white walls begin to feel like home. It's dark out there.
The thumping slows. The sound bounces off your eardrums as your heart decides to settle down. You count your blessings.
How many days has it been? All of them feel like your first, but there's been too many to count. The static leaves your lungs with an exhale of resignation, one of the few emotions your mind seems to remember. Not even awe lingers around anymore.
The monitor gives you some options for landing, but home stopped being one of them long ago. The word rings hollow. Tastes bitter on the tongue.
Maybe that's just the metal, though.

enjoyed Nosferatu 2024 but wished it gave more
my review of Nosferatu 2024:

an enjoyable, unnerving watch, but it feels like less than the sum of its parts. I started to see the vision in the second half, but it was never pushed as far as Eggers has proven he can go- it coalesces into something where none of the aspects are as impressive as they could be.

Lily Rose Depp gives a downright incredible performance but her fantastic physical acting is underutilized; the psychosexual angle is intriguing but ultimately slight; the presentation is gruesome, bleak, gorgeous, but never as gripping and ominous as it threatens to be. it sits in a strange no man's land where it has everything it needs but not quite enough in any respect.

seriously though, Lily Rose Depp, god damn was she good in this

a quick poem
keep a straight face.
don't give them your pain,
lest they make yours their own.

hold your grief selfishly;
hold it to your heart
until it makes a home.

find yourself broken.
in the midst of sorrow,
something truer is there:

a pulse still beating,
still air in these lungs—
yours, and yours alone.

we are in full swing of a fascist state and they are sending people to concentration camps
"This administration abides by the rule of law," said the spokeswoman, Tricia McLaughlin.
"During further assessment, intelligence officers could not definitively determine whether the individual is or is not a confirmed member of TDA," or Tren de Aragua. "He may very well be a member of this vicious gang. He may not be."

In a follow-up message, Ms. McLaughlin said that the department had received new information that Mr. Castillo was a member of the gang. She did not provide evidence.

"TDA is a pathetic gang for human trafficking, drug trafficking and kidnap for ransom among other heinous crimes," Ms. McLaughlin said.
"The New York Times is more interested in writing sob stories about its disgusting members than justice for its victims."

"Other People's Lives" by Dermot Bolger

Letting Go: Four Poems

1. The Dead

We see the dead as extinct particles of carbon
Or as being elevated to an enlightened status,
Released from all of the human contradictions
That governed how they navigated their lives.

We imbue them with apparent wisdom and intuition
To conjure ghostly stratagems that let them assuage
The doubts and questions still causing us anguish
By infiltrating our dreams with cryptic messages.

But if shorn of all human flaws so they only retain
The altruistic aspects of their nature, their ability
To make us feel wrapped in radiant love whenever
They were not burdened by doubt and insecurity,

Then these benevolently omniscient guardians
Cannot be the imperfect beings we cherished,
Who guarded secrets and nursed anxieties
That festered, unable to be openly addressed.

If any benign sages watch down over our lives,
They cannot be the flawed souls whose absence
We still grieve. We will have irrevocably lost them,
No matter what exalted state of grace they exist in.

my review of Animal Crossing New Horizons:

has a special place in my heart even if its hollowness does ring bittersweet as the years drag on.
I was devastated when I realized I had forgotten to transfer an island with so many favorite villagers to a new Switch...and then I remembered that the endgame never really stuck with me, and that the joy and intrigue of the initial hours is what came to me so fondly.
those feelings, too, have faded with time. I do check in now and again though, I usually end up playing again for a week or two; it serves its purpose as a pick-me-up, until it wears out its welcome.
I haven't played New Leaf in a while. maybe I should check up on them too, I miss those guys.

sent this to someone dear, but I feel like it's a good microcosm of how I've been trying to navigate being autistic and learning to unmask with narcissists in the family. you have to learn to hear what they're actually saying, something they will never offer you. my mom has no idea what DBT is btw
text from me:

it's partially narcissism and partially "the burden of autism is other people." my mom is trying to micro manage more because she's seen me more emotional lately... anything on her to-do list is more important than anything I have to say, always.
so you just kinda learn to ignore it. she forced me today to sit down with her and look at local
DBT therapists and it was absolutely a way of saying "I don't trust that you are stable, go to therapy now," nevermind the fact that l've basically been doing DBT on my own for months

people are pointing out hypocrisy but I have to say, do you all understand how hilariously terrible of an idea this is they are rejecting cybersecurity from the *federal government of the United States of America* and using private servers as in like, with lesser security
Trump - who attacked his then-opponent
Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server for official business during his first presidential run - is overseeing a fully privatized transition that communicates from an array of @transition47.com,
@trumpvancetransition.com and @djtfp24.com accounts rather than anything ending in gov, and uses private servers, laptops and cell phones instead of government-issued devices.
