The second-term sequence of Trump's "Fool Me Once" attempts to bribe voters.
"February 2025, "DOGE dividend." Trump said the administration was considering giving 20% of DOGE savings to citizens and another 20% to paying down debt. He named no dollar amount. The $5,000 figure came from someone else: investor James Fishback's memo, which proposed $5,000 per tax-paying household on the assumption that DOGE would save $2 trillion. The dividend never materialized..obviously, as DOGE ended up costing the country billions.
2025 to 2026, "tariff dividend." Earlier in 2025 he said a rebate was being considered but that he preferred paying down debt. Then on November 9 he posted that at least $2,000 a person would be paid, excluding high earners. On November 17 he said the checks would come around the middle of 2026. Later he moved that to toward the end of the year. He also said Congress wasn't needed, which contradicted his own aides. On February 20, 2026, the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs 6-3. As of July, no law had passed and this earlier pile of Trumpshit has not come to fruition.
January 2026, health care. The centerpiece of his health plan was sending money directly to Americans for health savings accounts in place of the expired ACA credits.
September 9, 2026, Now, the Bullshit Dividend the "Trump Dividend." He pledged $5,000 to every adult if Republicans keep both chambers. That would likely cost over $1 trillion, need congressional approval, and add to a deficit of nearly $1.8 trillion."

But the bad luck that Tennyson seemed to invite struck again just as the favorable reviews were appearing. Copious applications of water inside and out, constant wrappings in cold, wet sheets, and enforced abstinence from tobacco and alcohol seemed to help him during each stay; but he would soon ruin any beneficial effects by his careless life once he had left the establishment, resuming his drinking and smoking to the despair of his friends.
