This speech from Kemi is actually pretty good. Started off all David Brent but this section on Farage and Reform is completely excoriating. Something has happened on the British Right and they have decided to stop pulling their punches against the far right. Finally. (Policies still shit tho)

Europe might need to survive Le Pen, a Vox coalition in Spain and maybe even the AfD in Germany though... That's my biggest worry. Europe does not seem to have the right leaders for this time. Enemies of the EU are exploiting differences everywhere they can.

Completely agree. And holding a referendum on rejoin in say 2031 is another 5 years of demographic change. That's a few hundred thousand largely Brexit voters dying a year and being replaced in the voting age by younger largely Rejoin voters. It would be 60% if the campaign is led effectively

Uhm... Putting two and two together here... Has Trump been talking to the Military about nuking a smaller Iranian city to force them into surrender? Seems random to discuss San Diego or LA like this without there being some context in his scrambled egg brains.

The difference in polling between Aldi and Lidl shoppers is hilarious to me. I've always seen them as pretty synonymous but lean towards Aldi for unknown reasons. Likewise I've always hated Morrisons.

V interesting chart not least the implication that the UK is core Europe…I can say with scientific certainty that the more Burnham talks about getting closer to Europe the better Gilts will perform (yes ofc there are various other factors).

He's damaged goods from the coalition era and postmaster scandal. He's done as much as he can and if the Lib Dems want to be the serious heirs to a more liberal or One Nation conservatism then they need a fresh replacement.

I don't think they gave Healey the job because his economic brilliance. I think they gave it to him so Andy could in effect be chancellor. Ed would have been the better choice by far but he would have been more independent.

Disagree with this. One of the only comments he made was about single market option and then being a rule taker. I think he will be full fat rejoin or customs union, not the middle ground. The french will use the EU to kill off the City of London if we just done SM.

Online Nation report from Ofcom makes for fascinating reading. X visitor monthly numbers another 13% down in 2025 on top of over 20% in 2024. Average time-per-day down from 14 mins to 9 mins to 6 mins - and considering X's post-Musk permissiveness on bots, I'd suggest the real data is much worse.

X is essentially just a sheep farm now. Musk is the farmer, his favoured users the shepherds of public opinion and the bots are the sheepdogs making sure the easily swayed go the right direction. If only there was somewhere else politicians and journalists could interact with real people...

The Chinese are profiting from Europe's problems and Europe is more than entitled to fight back right than give up one of its biggest and most profitable industries.

"Don't worry about the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs, those unemployed people will be able to buy cheaper cars from China." China isn't making cheaper cars wholly because it has cheaper labour, it is doing so because of subsidies and cheap energy (coal and russian gas).

Not to give these people excuses but I do wonder how much centrists and left wingers tempered the worst instincts of these right wingers when we were all on Twitter. Now its just right wingers letting their worst instincts take over and egging each other on for views and likes(and money).

Spare me the self flagellating wing of Bluesky pumping out the "but the EU wouldn't want us back and I don't blame them" bullshit. It is utter cowardice. Get on board, make the case for returning positively and bring as many people with you as possible. That's how we rejoin. Self pity is not.

Burnham's speech hasn't gone unnoticed in Brussels (where I am) Maybe Canada helped pave the way But a sense among senior officials here there's a more purposeful and political Govt in London that's willing to be clearer and more strategic about what it wants with/from EU

This is my assumption. Nick some fuel, leave it at X location and we will pay you. Then one of the guys probably looked on Google maps where they were meant to leave it and thought of shit there's a massive RAF base there, what have we gotten ourselves into and called 999.

Hints from sources that he might talk about it or open the conversation certainly aren't confirmations. Michael Gove was so certain Burnham wouldn't do it that he promised to campaign for Stella Creasy in Walthamstow at the next election...

I think the fact that successfully Burnham kept it so close is a testament to the team he has around him. It is also a huge factor in it landing so well. The right wing media never believed he would do it and thus didn't scorch the earth in advance. Brilliant work by all.

This is what happens when the government allows BBC Online to be taken over by GB News. They are actively working to promote Reform and bury any bad stories about them. I get that the government don't want to be seen as interfering in independent media but it has been completely corrupted.
