Today's Frazz comic, by Jef Mallett Happy May Day
Drawing of an elementary school boy [Caulfield] talking excitedly.
P1: "Today we honor the greatest guitarist"
P2: "who is also an astrophysicist"
P3: "who ever lived!"
In P4 we can finally see who he's talking to: the school janitor [Frazz], holding a broom. Frazz: "That is not what May Day is, but maybe it should be." Caulfield: "I need you to play 'Fat Bottomed Girls' on the intercom."

@jik as a former St Louisan I must offer
B&W photo of a neglected commercial storefront whose second-story sign promises "Brains 25¢ Drive In"

Most of the known photos of the building and the "Brains 25¢" sign date from the late 1970s to about 1983. The building stood off Chouteau Avenue (what was once Route 66), about a half-mile south of St Louis University.

At one time, East St Louis and the surrounding area was a thriving stockyard that did booming business. Fried brain sandwiches were popular in the St Louis area.

Latest from @barrydeutsch.bsky.social #AIBubble
Four-panel comic from Barry Deutsch, featuring a smiling, blathering white guy in a suit in front of a sky with puffy white clouds.
Panel 1: "A.I. IS THE DEFINING TECH OF OUR TIME! MICROSOFT AND AMAZON AND FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE HAVE SPENT ALMOST A TRILLION DOLLARS ON A.I.!"
Panel 2 shows SBWG holding a soap bubble wand: "HAS A.I. MADE A PROFIT? NOT YET, BUT... SOMEDAY WE'LL FIGURE OUT SOMETHING A.I. CAN DO THAT ACTUALLY MAKES MONEY! IT DEFINITELY MIGHT COULD HAPPEN!"
In Panel 3 the bubbles start to overtake the clouds: "IN THE MEANTIME, WE HAVE TO PREPARE! BY SPENDING MORE BILLIONS BUILDING MORE A.I. DATA CENTERS SO WE CAN SPEND TRILLIONS MORE SO THAT SOMEDAY A.I. CAN DO...UM..."
In Panel 4 we see one of the bubbles has five ordinary folk crammed uncomfortably into it, and another bubble is empty bearing a FOR RENT sign: "ANYWAY, A.I. IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLY MAYBE NOT GOING TO POP AND TAKE DOWN THE WHOLE ECONOMY! YOU'VE GOT NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!"

SBWG's avatar appears below the margin of Panel 4, pointing to himself and reassuring us: "AND IF A.I. DOES DESTROY THE ECONOMY, NO WORRIES! I'LL STILL BE RICH."

On a chilly day in #Colorado, a house finch contentedly munches seeds from her perch on a squirrel-proof feeder, swaying in the breeze. In the background about two feet away, a chubby fox squirrel mutters quietly to himself while eyeing the feeder. He would eventually give up and go look for castoff seeds on the ground below.

December 5 ⚫ Doors 6:30 PM ⚫ Film 7:00 PM

Act with Love (Immigrant Allies) and the Racial Justice Task Force present If I Could Stay (Si Pudiera Quedarme), a film about two brave women and UU allies in the Colorado faith community. Learn about current immigrant issues following the film with a speaker and Q&A. Snacks will be provided.

The film is an intimate and moving portrait of two courageous mothers, Jeanette Vizguerra and Ingrid Encalada Latorre, who risk everything to stay with their families. Faced with the threat of deportation, they make the choice to seek sanctuary in local churches, surrendering their freedom in order to protect their children. Over five years, the film follows their lives as they transform isolation into activism and organize faith communities to stand in solidarity. The film is presented in Spanish and English with subtitles, and a new ending from the filmmakers.

Q&A Speaker: Joy Athanasiou is an immigration attorney with over two decades of experience specializing in immigration policy, reform, and advocacy. Joy has served as Co-Chair of the Legislative Advocacy Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Colorado Chapter.

Single-panel F MINUS comic from Tony Carrillo, depicting a somewhat unlikely scene set in what looks like a golf course sand trap on a sunny day.
